Mattel Hot Wheels, tiny red Daytona coupe
I don't know what scale it is, the model is less than 3" long, of metal.
Says Mattel Hot Wheels. Fairly accurate in general shape though I have only see it through the plastic window in the box so can't see the back very well. Are these offered in other colors than red (I know red is a historically accurate color as I have a picture of a Daytona coupe racing in the Sixties that was painted red).
I found one similar on Amazon , a 2007 edition 1:64 Scale Red Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe Die Cast Car #006 for $7.95--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My question is not about the fidelity of the model (which is marginal as far as accuracy) but about the copy on the box. It says something to the effect of Carroll Shelby Licensing owning the "shape of the 427 Cobra) even though this is a model of a Daytona coupe. My memory is a bit hazy here, but I thought in the last go-round in court Shelby was unable to establish that he and no one else owns the 427 Cobra shape and that is why FF and many other replica makers continue to make clones of the 427. I guess maybe the little kids buying this toy won't know about the lawsuits but find it funny that even on something so lowly as a kid's toy the fight goes on....
