Default Anyone collect hotwheels/matchbox?

I just really started collecting about a year ago. i mostly just buy the muscle cars and hotrods, sometimes multiples of them if I really like em. Curious what you use to display them.

I still have a bunch from when I was a kid, but I dont display them. I dont think any of them are really collectable but I could be wrong. Some of the old H/O cars are still in there too. Those may be collectable.

Most of my models are 1/18th or 1/24th, but I do have about 20 Hot Wheels and other brand models that are that size. I normally just leave them in the blister packs they come in and put them with the larger cars in the case. Since I don't have room to display all of my models I only have about 50 of the better ones out.

I have a display board that has slots for the blister packs. It holds 5 rows of 10 or 11 cards. Hangs on the wall. I bought it at a hobby consignment store that is no longer in business. I could use several more. I usually buy at least 2 of each when I can.

Jerry, ya know everytime I go to the store and see the JL dragsters I think of you! I have not seen your car yet though.

I probably have about 400 hotwheels in the original packaging... maybe a few more. I have alot of 1/24 diecast and alot that I built too, maybe 2 dozen 1/18. I have probably 30 of the original HO slot cars that belonged to my dad when he was a kid and a TON of track.

I think when I get home I'm gonna build a display case. Something that can at least hold my complete sets.

Hello everyone...
I have collected Hot Wheels for some years , and should anyone here wish to let them go to a Good home , i would proudly display them in my cabinets here at home. They bring back memories of when i was a kid and my dad would come home from TDY ( Army slang...) with Matchbox cars and then Hot Wheels. These little cars mean more to me than the dollar amount they might be worth...They just give me the Greatest memories of my dad that i would like to give to my future kids...

My wife and i just recently found out that we were going to have Twins , so i would like to get some collections going for them...So , should anyone here have any Matchbox or definetly Hot Wheels , and would like to let them go to someone that will love them and then pass them onto my kids , please contact me thru here or at SFcobra65@comcast.net or 423-355-7831 est.

I would go to E-bay , but done have an account , and mostly the people that sell them there want to Retire off them , and i have no spare 401k to use and i'm not willing to Mortgage the house , so. be easy on me... And the years i am looking for are from 1968-1984 , cases , cars , playsets ect...

Thanks again ,
Frank Generazio

I only buy from ebay if I absolutely have to. usually you pay a buck for the car and 5-7 for shipping! That is an outrage! so if I buy on ebay, i only buy lots. Pick through the ones I want and give the rest to my daughter or whomever will play with them. I just bought the whole set of the special Larry's Garage cars, all 20 plus 16 of the variation colors for $45. There was a total of 45 cars, a couple doubles. They retail for $3 each so I was happy! Still in the packaging and everything

Fss..
Sounds like you got a great deal on the Lary's Garage cars.Too bad they didnt make a shelby cobra 427 inn that line... I know Larry personally , and those cars truely represent his Favorite rides , some of which are his personal ones.Last year , i had the distinct honor and pleasure to have gone on Hot Wheels 40th Anniversary Road trip last year.

I had sold a Hot Wheels collection i had , and bought my Superformance Cobra with some of the Proceeds about 9 years ago.Well , fast forward to last year , and the HW's team had heard of my story , and had their PR firm call me to see if i would like to join their caravan across country last year.Well , without any hesitation at all , i packed up the old girl and headed out from Tenn to El Segundo Ca , and met up with the HW's Design staff and headed out for 3 weeks across the country.

We started the tour with a stop at Bonneville Salt Flats where we were met with Loads of HW fans and fellow Hot Rod nuts , and had a Great time. Then we headed off to Speed Ks (Town of only 50 , YES , 50 people...) where 10,000 people showed up and perticipated in a Day of Hot Wheels events , and a Car show.Thats where i had the Biggest surprise , HW's had arrainged to have me come up on stage where everyone sand Happy Birthday to me , of which i turned 44 that day.

After that , we headed out to Indiannpolis and stopped and the Indy 500 track , where we had another day long HW event and thousands of people again showed the love of HW's.While there , the Indy staff treated us to a trip around the track , and then..... The BIGGEST surprise , they let us Kiss the Bricks and stand at the Winners podium.WOW!!! was that an eventfull day...

Then , we packed up the 3 tractor trailers and RV , and headed out to the Motor City , where we had another Great turn out for the HW event that was held at Fords Proving ground test facility.Boy , did Ford step up with be such wonderful hosts....After there, we headed out to Watkins Glen NY , where Hot Wheels was going to be the Host of the 60th Anniversary of the Glen , and in combination with HW's 40th anniversary , we helped celebrate 100 years of Racing and Auto Racing at one of the most Famouse tracks in the World.

I bet , there must have been 50,000 people there that day.We had one H*** of a great time there. After the event , i had the pack the old Cobra head back to Tenn. But, when i left , i headed straight into a Huricaine , and 16 hrs of non stop water and much flooding of the inside , but i too it slow , and made it home just fine.

I was the only Non Hot Wheel employee that went the entire 6800 miles in my own car.I was with the HW team everyday , every moment for 3 weeks... BOY , it wasd so much fun , and.... Then i had the 2nd BIGGEST honor to come to me and SPF086 , While at Watkins glen , the President and Head Design team for Mattels Hot Wheels brand asked me if they could replicate my SPF into a 1 off hand made HW , to Thank ME (?) for going on the tour....

Well , to be very honest , i never really thought they would ever do something THAT cool , well.... 4 days before Christmas of last year , and HUGE box came for me from the Head designer at Mattels HW's line , in it , were 4 , Hand made , 1 off EXACT replicas of my SPF , right down to the Licensee plate , color ( Guardsman Blue w/White stripes) , all my logos , and even (This is the Best part) replicated the Superformance Logo on my windshield and the part where it says, "Dedicated to the Memory of Bob Olthoff"...

3 of the cobras they made were for 3 of my children , 1 was for me.The 3 for the kids were in , individual lexan cases , and the 1 for me was in a Big Lexan case , with Everyones signature from Mattel and the Hot Wheels team... All that for me just wanting to show Mattel , what they have done for me , and thousands of other kids thru the years..They also sent me 3 , 1:18 scale Ferrari Elite Prototypes and a letter about them and the Cobras they made for me.

Not sure about why they sent the Ferraris ( So , if anyone would like to add some VERY Rare Ferraris to your collection , get ahold of me..) but it was a great gesture just the same. Now , you have to understand , this is the 2nd time , my SPF was replcated by a Toy company.Back in 2005 , Johnny Lightning replicated my SPF in one of their lines called "American Beauties" after winning one of their 1:1 car shows at the 05 JL convention i went to.

So , should you ever get onto E-bay and see the Johnny Lightning American Beauties line listed , look for the Blue cobra... Thats mine. The line ran for about a year , till they retired the line , but every "Top up" cobra from 2005 on , is patterned after my SPF... So i have had the VERY BIG honor of having 2 , Die cast companies replicate my SPF into a Toy...

The HW's and JL's that i kept are from the late 60's ( 1968-1984) thru the mid 80's.But , all i collect now are strictly Cobra 427 die casts or models , and then the cars from my childhood....

So , should anyone have any Old HW's , or HW play sets , please contact me as i would love to put them into my private collection. The 1:18 ( 3 ) Ferrari Elite Prototypes i have available are a F430 Challenge car (#28-Bruno Senna ) , a Black Michael Schumacher FXX and a Red FXX Evoluzione. All are Boxed and in MINT condition.

Take care everyone...

Frank

WOW!!! That is very cool! I will have to get on ebay and see if i can find one of those JL's. There is one car that I still do not own that I want badly. I've seen it on ebay numerous times but everytime, either the price or the timing is just not right. I want 1 in the package and 1 to play with! haha But it's the early 80's RED 427 with the real rider tires(rubber) I can remember playing with this car as a kid, it was by far my favorite! Boy if I had kept all the cars i had as a kid! It would have been awesome if Larry had put a cobra into that lineup! There is also a HWcollector only lineup that is coming out. They are only 2 cars into the set, I have the first and the 2nd comes out on the 3rd of June. You can check them out at www.hwcollectors.com

This is hte JL car I presume? Why are the tires white?

The Red, Real Rider ( Rubber tires ) Shelby Cobra you are looking for should run you between $15-20.00 loose Mint , and $30 Mint in package. There is also a Blue Real rider Shelby Cobra from HW's that has 2 different colored rims.1 is White , the other is Grey.

The Red Real Rider Shelby cobra from HW's come with Grey rims only. There is also 3 Mexican only issued ones with Yellow stripes , 2 of which come with Grey Rim Real Riders and 1 come with Black Basic Wheels. All total from HW's , there are about 100 different ones including Wheel and paint variations.

The Johnny lightning version you have pictured is the White Lightning version of my car ( You can see my car pictured on the Blister pack ) meaning the tires are white and in lower production #'s.The alternate version of that , is one with Black basic Cobra wheels. This line of cars , The American Beauties line were produced for about a year and a few months. There are 8 different cars in the series , i am # 5.

ya, I am looking for Red with real riders. Some people on ebay are crazy!! It's like $50 buy it now! There are blue ones all over on ebay but I never liked it as much. If I remember right I think I used the blue one to be a crash victim and it had a run in with a hammer! lol I'll continue my watch for the red real rider cobra.

That JL white lightning car above is on ebay Buy it now for $89!!!

I still have all my Matchbox and Hotwheels from when I was kid...All from the 60's. I haven't looked at them in years. I use to use them on my HO train layout. They worked well with HO...about the same scale. I'll have to dig them out and see what I have. I have a lot of Corgi and Dinky toys too. Remember them?
