He's correct... I saw that car last time I was up there. It's a 427 Comp car.

Looked at the AACA Magazine article again on CSX 2254. The current owner wrote the article and identifies himself as " by William Bartels " , and the Cobra " resides in my private museum" Photos were taken by West Peterson.
Bartels comment:
" I purchased the car from a private collector in April 2004. It's odometer shows 5,800 miles, which I believe to be the correct mileage on the car. I have shown it only twice, at the 2005 AACA Central Spring Meet in Warren Ohio where it was awarded First Junior and the 2005 Glenmoor Gathering where it also won an award. "

If you look closely at the 'Elvis' photo, that is a 427 Cobra he's standing next to. But, the rest of the photos show some sort of 'kit' car (no pun intended).

The car in picture is the "Teakettle Special" built by John McCann using a MG TD chassis with a Mistral fiberglass body. Engine was a small block chevy. The car was named for it's propensity to overheat, it was raced in the early 60's. You are correct in the fact of it being used as a stand in for the 427 Cobra Elvis drove into a pond in the movie Spinout.

I worked the Russo & Steele Auction for ESPN2 two years ago in Monterey. This crossed and was a "no sale" at $850,000.

The only time I ever lived out of Maine was in Meriden,a year, then in Wallingford, for 3 more.I here it has changed a lot since the 60's.Knew a lot of great people down there.Would be a long haul in the Cobra to drive down there.A lot of the memories are still crystal clear. Is Conn Dragway still in business? CT Dragway closed about thirty years ago. All the speedways around here are gone with the exception of Stafford, Waterford and Thompson. It was a nice place to grow up, but now it's about the most expensive place to live in the US.
