I don't get it:confused:. What does this have to do with organizing people to go on a ride together?? I must have missed something!

Cashburn 11-12-2010 08:06 AM

That's ok, it's high brow I guess?

Seriously, you guys should form a CT Cobra Club and Vintage would be happy to be your first sponsor.

Seriously Jay, that is an excellent idea, except for the fact that there is no "you guys"in this ! We are all Cobra replica owners, nobody is any better than anyone else here!!! How about this, why don't we all together form a group called CT Cobra Club! You have organized many cruises etc, and this is a great idea IMO, and since it is your idea, why don't you start the ball rolling and see how much interest is out there. Let me know if I can help, I will do what I can, time permitting!

I'd be happy to. But the fact remains that a club should not have a bias toward any particular brand/manufacturer. I think that our hosting of events sometimes turns a few away for some reason out of allegiance to their brand. Which I can understand.

So I'd love to sponsor some how, but want and need someone else to take it up.

Not being biased is exactly what i was saying, and I think the way you come across, sometimes people take it as you are biased and your brand of cars are better. I really don't think it has much to do with type of car the person is driving. I have been on a bunch of rides this year with a varied selection of different cars on the same ride. very friendly, and absolutely ZERO animosity!!!!!
In all honesty, your comment in post #2 was taken by me and others as "It's just Jay's way of pissing on you then telling you it was just a joke. It's only OK to organize a cruise if you own a Backdraft." . This actually came out of one of the PM's I received after your post.
So when you say that your hosting of events sometimes turns a few away for some reason out of allegiance to their brand...maybe, but maybe also some of the reason is your attitude.
Jay, please don't take this in a negative way, no harm or malice intended. Just being honest with you.
We who drive these kit cars need to stick together and we all need to remember that it is a we thing and nobody is better than anybody else because you drive an ERA, Backdraft or whatever!
That said, how would you suggest starting a Ct Cobra Car Club?
Later...Dave

Cashburn 11-12-2010 05:18 PM

Well give me one guess who the PM was from and I bet I get it.

The reality is you can go back to day 1 of our business, in the days of Middletown and the door has always been open. This year was the first drive we ever hosted that had more BDRs then any other make. Reality is that we service a lot of other makes and and even models. And ask Bob if we take care of him when he needs it? Or Mike, or ...

Todd's pissed, that's fine. I'm not out to make Todd happy. If I did not feel our product was superior from some angle then I would not be in it.

"You guys" included Gary and Phil (Backdraft owners and Vintage customers) but again some people will see it how they want.

The first guys that came to our get togethers owned the following:

Unique
SPF
Factory Five
Venom

So when a joke is made that every weekend is a proposal for a group drive I guess you can take it however you want.

I could start a CT Backdraft Club tomorrow I suppose... or last year or 6 years ago. So any other problems bring it to my attention and enjoy the drive with or without the announcement. I can only imagine a PO drooling at the announcement of a "spirited" drive with the route and times.

Attitudes seemed to change when more BDRs showed up, animosity perhaps in all directions. The reality is the guys that come in and buy our products and support our biz through service/parts etc. have to be my priority.

Flip the coin, there's 2 sides.

Cashburn 11-12-2010 05:42 PM

How to start a CT Cobra Club:

1.) Get a rep/owner on board from each major manuf.
2.) Get together and plan one event for each season.
3.) Publicize it.
4.) Have patience and watch it grow.

The BDR guys have the same thing to say about the SPF guys that the FFR guys do. And the SPF guys... you should hear them talk about those ERAs. I can only imagine what those Street Beasts guys must think? **)

Bob In Ct 11-12-2010 06:18 PM

As I mentioned on a thread earlier today, you guys (Jay and Brian) have always been there to keep my SPF (which will soon be 11 years in my garage) on the road. Again today your assistance was greatly appreciated.

I think most of us really don't care what the other guy is driving. Should I be able to get out tomorrow (a little hose problem yesterday) I will be cruising with an FFR and an ERA, it doesn't matter to me. So let's all try to get along regardless of the brand we drive.

Bob

Cashburn 11-12-2010 06:20 PM

Bob,
Getting more lifts. About time...

davids2toys 11-12-2010 08:31 PM

Hey Jay,
Really glad this whole thread has actually been pretty constructive and not blown out of proportion. Maybe a few people including myself took your comment the wrong way, so I do apologize for taking your comment wrong. Whenever you post a thread about a ride, i don't see anybody making fun of you and i guess it would be nice to get the same in return. i just posted it to let people know about a nice ride. Guess I was just raised with that old saying, if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. I guess I can't hold other people to that because just like our cars we all have different personalities.
I don't know anything of what you have going with Todd, and I don't care, it is none of my business...to me, it is not important who said it, kind of irrelevant, I'm more into content and meaning!

I do appreciate your business and it is really cool that you do work on other makes besides BDR. I never questioned your business and this really had nothing to do with your business. I think everybody would not only understand but expect you to be loyal to you BDR customers and to make them you first priority...I think you would be nuts if you did not!
You speak of the animosity, i will have to be ignorant on this one. I have never experienced any at all since I have owned my Cobra, and I have been to all kinds of cruises, picnics, car shows with every conceivable brand of Cobras out there. I will have take your word for it, you are much more experienced in the Cobra world than I!!! Even the cruises with you have been just great with no arsehole remarks about anybodies car.
Thanks for the cobra club ideas. Also got my fall cruise T- shirt last week. I like it a lot, looks great and good quality. Thanks for putting that together for us.
Wow, so you work on Bobs car,now I am really impressed. He actually lets you get inside the perimeter of those little highway cones...LOL
Take Care...Dave

Just want to say I got the joke. Dave, Bob, Gary, and me have all been broadcasting our weekend drives. Personally I think that's exactly why this page is here, and it's great to see people using it. I still feel lonely over here in RI. Glad this post got by the misperceptions.

Cashburn 11-13-2010 05:01 AM

Glad it was brought up, even if I had to make a bad joke to get there.

I propose "you guys", which I will define as the most active members and owners in the region, work on a date and time that we can host a pizza party or whatever at the shop and get the Club idea rolling. It can be a Saturday, Sunday, or some evening after work ... happy to host that and help it grow. Don't need the Cobras there, just a planning session and think tank.

Bob and I have labored over the concept of getting participation in such a thing for years.

If you need some suggestions on guys to invite I think you can see by the posts on here who is the most involved. Would be good to get a guy like Don on board too since he is on top of the laws in the state and the bigger clubs.

Glad you like the shirt, it's a limited edition ;)

Go Cobras

Hi All,

Interesting conversations here. I must say I took a back seat to the discussion, but I will say this. The History of the AC Shelby Cobras is the true passion. If we could all afford a real one I'm sure we'd get one. I know I would and then I could retire down south and live like a king after I sold it. The passion for the cobra is what makes our replicars so fun regardless of make.

(Keeping in mind the real cobras of the 60s could also have been considered composite vehicles) AC British chassis design, German engineering Salisbury rear end, VW steering columns, American Ford Engines, as well as any fabrication for racing. Sounds familiar with all our cars.

And as you guys know, I love to drive mine. I like to plan two rides, One as a kick off early in the season and one towards the end. I like the Gillette Castle Mohegan Sun Ride myself and because I like this ride personally, When I plan this ride my thinking is about how others can enjoy the ride and have a nice time. If people cant show, I just enjoy the ride with my wife or one of my co-pilots.

The CT Cobra Club would be an awesome idea. And, each member can contribute by planning a different route to ride and take turns once its established. Some people have knowledge of different ares of the state. For me, I would not have seen a 1/2 of the state if it wasn't for these rides. I never knew CT could be so pretty at times.

Anyway,: by all means get those last rides in, the white stuff will be here before we know it.:o;):MECOOL::JEKYLHYDE

I'm jealous... all my demo cars are sold. No Cobra to drive. The weather seems to be better now then a month ago.
