Connecticut Gas Tax
Here's an FYI for all Connecticut drivers. The gas tax in our fair state is 25 cents / gallon. This is in addition to the federal tax which is 18.4 cents / gallon, for a total of 43.4 cents / gallon. But wait, there's more. Our greedy state also charges wholesalers 5% before the gas ever gets to the retailer. This 5% is a gold mine for the state since the state makes more when gas costs more.
This is why the guys in Hartford are never concerned with high gas prices. The higher the price, the more thay make!

Actually I have driven on our roads and the roads in Venezuela... grass is always greener. They did not have the winter we had though. For arguments sake, name a country with superior roads that you have driven on?

Forget countries, how apples to apples, how about state to state, maybe even winter to winter!!
OK New Hampshire for example, much worse winters and far better roads!

Have you driven RI roads. Ct doesn't pay two police to sit on every construction job. It's obvious our road money goes much further.

The state roads in Connecticut are pretty decent. I wish I could get the speed bumps milled on I95 west of New Haven, the Merritt and Wilbur Cross though. The town to avoid is Stamford, the worst roads in the state.

Bob you are correct! After spending the last 6 months driving the roads in NY, I'll stay right here. There literally is a "tire & rim" shop off almost every exit off the Van Wyke. Those are the guys getting rich. The pot holes out there could swallow a small car. And that's only in the 20min ride between East Elmhurst and Queens! As much as I hate not getting out in the winter, imagine what we'd be spending on gas if we could drive year round. I'd be broke if we lived on the West Coast. Hey, I'm just thankful I'm not fueling up every weekend this summer at a marina...

Mentions CT Gas Gross ReceiptsTax as 7.53%
" In the past two months, the 7.53% tax has risen from roughly 19 cents a gallon to 23 cents "
" The Gross Receipts Tax is on top of the state gasoline excise tax of 25 cents a gallon and the federal excise tax of 18.4 cents a gallon. "
Gross Receipts Tax Rises With Gas Prices « CBS Hartford
As with any single specific tax, if comparisons are made to other states , all the taxes need to be considered

Forget the price and just drive. It's not gonna do any good to worry about something you can't do anything about. I don't like it any better than you do. Just be glad you can afford a Cobra and the gas to run it.

Originally it was the the State Lottery that was started to pay for our roads. After the Mianus River Bridge gave way our roads were going to be perfect! Another fund raided for something stupid. Oh well Drive fast and have fun and when it gets too expensive for the SUV's then all the more for me! LOL

My original point was that you can't expect much help from the guys in Hartford when the increased price puts more money in the state's pockets. Personally, I don't care if it goes to $6.00 per gallon. It was wonderful driving to Stafford Springs today without the usual traffic nightmare coming home.
BTW - 16 ounce beers at the track were $6.00 and nobody complained. Gas (from 4 miles down) is 4.15 a gallon and everyone complains. Go figure!
