New SF in Town
Reliable Carrier delivered my new baby this afternoon (can't say enough positive things about that experience without the risk of being accused of owning the company). She's safely undercover and now I can see if she can be registered in the commonwealth without my having to tamper with her OEM emissions (or anything else). The original owner titled her as a 1965 in Arizona and I'm hoping that Massachusetts will accept that. Alan

Congrats! Your're going to love it.
It looks like there are two fairly recent threads in the registration forum regarding MA registration that might be really helpful.

Advice Needed
The Arizona title reads: Year: 1965; Make: SPCON; Model: (no entry); Body Style: 2DSD.
I'm filling out the RMV-1 which asks for: Year; Make; Model Name; Model #; Body Style. Given the pitfalls of inspection and registration, is there any best way to fill-in the entries?
I'm hoping for a simple, no-inspection, re-title based on the Arizona title that I have in my possession. Do I turn over the Arizona title to the RMV? Advice? Thanks!

Spent two hours this morning at my local RMV office. The bulk of this had to do with calculating the basis for my sales/use tax. The RMV couldn't figure it out so they went to the car expert department at the Dept. of Revenue. Probably spent 45-minutes waiting for them to okay my Bill of Sale figure but they out did themselves and said the the basis was (ahem) $553,200 with a sales/use tax of $35,000. Obviously registration was a no-go and this morning's exercise came at the expense of a vacation day.

Found a way around the public servant who disagreed with my Bill of Sale and then pegged my sales/use tax hit at ten times what is due. Simply download an ST-7 from the Dept. of Revenue's website, fill it out and present it at one of the Dept's walk-up counters with your check. The public servant manning the counter will stamp everything and provide you with a receipt that you can hand to the RMV. Sales/Use tax solved (though subject to later audit - hopefully by sounder minds than those staffing the Dept. of Revenue's car expert department).

Home Free!
I took a chance on the weather yesterday (the 3rd) and took the Cobra to have it inspected. People in the know said that it was quite possible that the car could still be flagged in the RMV database but this wasn't the case yesterday as the car blew through inspection without a hitch.
In hindsight, I must say that I have no real complaint about the Mass. RMV. Their counters are understaffed and overwhelmed with walk-in traffic and their telephone Hotline system is a joke and a disgrace (with hold times of 30-minutes and more) but they did as well as they could during the registration for the Cobra. The one meltdown I suffered was due to the crazy basis figure that the Massachusetts Dept. of Revenue coughed up for sales tax (which must be paid before a registration is written). Anywho, all's well that ends well - now, when is this tropical 95〫heat going to break?
