Registration in NH?
My new Hi-Tech 427 S/C will be arriving in a day or two :-)
I have seen some Cobras registered as Antiques because they are replicas of a 1965 car, others as Custom Built based on the year they were assembled, others as Fords.
There are some advantages to registering as an Antique, but my Town Clerk says the car must be 25 years old...that being a replica doesn't qualify.
i understand that the existing title may be an issue, also...my Superformance is registered as a 1992 because that is how it was registered in FL.
Any advice or tricks to get it done the best (legal) way?
Thanks.......Bill

Hi Bill,
I can only speak to my experience and I am sure there are other variations as well. I called the DMV and had an officer come to the house to check out the cobra, serial #s, and paperwork. When he was done, he asked me how I wanted it to appear on the record. Since I didn't feel right passing it off as a 1966 Shelby Cobra, I had him list is as a 1966 Ford Cobra. It is registered as a 1966 as that is the year that this particular replica is based on.
Hope that helps and others can speak to their experience.
Good Luck
Mike

I scratch built my Cobra tribute. I registered it in 2008. A state trooper was assigned to go over the car. I told him that it was a replica that I built. He didn't offer me an option. He affixed a vin number and registered it as a 1965 Ford Cobra.
You might want to contact the Dept of Transportation and talk to the Department that is in charge of inspecting and registering Specialty Constructed Vehicles and Street Rods. See if it's passible to have your car reregistered under NH laws or if they have to go by the original registration/title. Good luck!

Is the Hi Tech a new build, or has the car been previously titled in another state? If so, exactly how does the title read:
Make
Model
Year

The car was titled in California. The entries are odd, to say the least:
Year 0000
Model 0000
Make Special Construction
First Year Sold 1996
Thanks for the help, everyone.....Bill

California Special Construction will pass directly in to NH Motor Vehicles as a 1996. You cannot fiddle with a California title.
Of course with that said, since the car is over 15 years old, technically it does not need anything but a notarized NH " Bill of Sale", at which point if the seller is willing, you could essentially "fill in the blanks". The tricky part again is the California issued title which you still have to use for the VIN that was assigned to the vehicle by them......The rest is strictly up to you.

Hey Bill, I have seen them registered as Shelby Cobra but when I went to do that Shelby is not listed as a manufacturer. Mine is registered as a 1966 Ford Roadster as that was the closest manufacturer and model we could find. New Hampshire is one of the sensible states that registers the car as the model it most closely resembles I believe. The old date codes on engines can also help with that. You will probably need to do a VIN verification. http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/d...ts/tdmv19a.pdf
Let me know if you need help with that.

The Hi-Tech arrived this afternoon. It is everything I hoped for...a beautiful build. Too bad the season is basically over...I'm already itching to show it off. Dennis Sklarski came up to see it come off the truck, and I think he's a little bit jealous :-)
Next step is to see if I can get it registered the way I would like. Unfortunately, our Town Clerk is a 25 year veteran...I'll have to have my ducks in a row to influence her thinking.

Congrats Bill, don't forget before the SPF goes to a happy new home we want to line up ALL the red ones for a pic, and there's a lot! No salt yet, take it for a spin.

If its registered before 1996 you don't have to get an omission test My Em was registered as a 1996 for that very reason Hope everything works out for the best Keep us posted

Nick, it looks like the weather will be good Friday and Saturday...though a bit nippy. Would you like me to bring the Hi-Tech over for show and tell?

I'd love to see it but will only be here Friday morning, probably before it warms up. Give me a holler and check. I have a DVD here for you too.

I talked with a very helpful State Trooper at Tamworth DMV. He understood what I wanted and has issued VINs for other Cobras and street rods. He said he would issue a new VIN that would supersede the California one and he would make it a 1965 Ford Cobra.
To do it, I need a notarized Bill of Sale (got it) a VIN verification form (got it) a Salvage form listing the chassis, engine, and transmission numbers and sources (no problem) and a Statement of Origin from the manufacturer (oops.)
The car builder has contacted the original owner in CA for me to try to get the Statement of Origin.
Fingers crossed.........Bill

I believe that the state of Origin (MSO/MCO) was supposed to be turned in when the car was initially titled in California.

Bill, we are glad that the new 427 came in...wow, you must be excited. Cool that Dennis came by. hope that you get to drive it a bit before it gets nasty out. We had snow here in Ohio last night, but may be 50 this weekend.
Enjoy, my friend

Thanks Larry,
It's a great car...I got to drive it twice before our first snow. Snow's melted and it looks like it will be in the 40's later this week, so I hope to get over to show it to Nick Acton maybe Thursday afternoon or Friday.
A buddy took COB023, and I took the 427 and we visited a car-guy friend the other day. Turned a lot of heads with 2 red Cobras going down the road in November. Rattled some windows in Melvin Village, too :-)
Send me an email if you get a chance...I seem to have lost your address.

I was in the neighborhood, so tried dropping by.
Looks like a nice day today, so I'm going to take it up to town hall and see if I can get registration going. Might be nice take another run out to Holderness, too.

Bill nice to see you getting some seat time before winter takes it's grip.
Sounds like you are enjoying your HiTech, what a great car the HiTech is, and you have a very nice one.
Hope you enjoy taking care of it as much as I enjoyed building it.
