Had a long conversation with my Town Clerk today. She said it doesn't matter whether a car is a new build or was previously titled. Either way, current NH regs require that any car be registered as the year it was built.

I pointed out that I had been told differently by some people, and she admitted that talking to 5 different state DMV people would probably get me 7 different answers. She also said that in the past, cars were permitted to be registered as the year they replicated. She admitted that there are clerks who might still be doing that. But she is firm that the practice is incorrect, and that cars must be registered as the year they were built.

She wasn't sure about the implications for emissions inspection on a 1996 car, but did not think it would be an issue. I don't think so either, since I know someone who can work around it :-)

I'd like to have an antique plate, but it's not a big deal, so I'm going ahead with registration as a 1996...starting a losing battle with my Town Clerk would NOT be a good idea!

Bill

That's a very sanitary build that turned out great. I tried to call you today while I was looking at it but only just got your new number. Keep up the good work.

Couldn't find it, Craig...did a bit of research and it seems I need a cable that inserts into the trip odometer from the back, and has a reset knob at the other end.

Nick brought Kevin over this afternoon. Seems he wanted to see what his HiTech might look like some day :-)

Kevin loved the car, and he seems to want to paint his the same color. It will be fun when he is on the road again to have our red cars side-by-side at some NH car shows.

I've been digging around in the NH regs. Though it seems that my Town Clerk is correct that a replica is not eligible to be registered as the year that it replicates, there may be similar advantages in registering as a Custom Vehicle.

Does anyone know anything about the Custom Vehicle registration option?

Thanks.......Bill

Bill,
Check around the area behind the horn button, it will be behind the dash and up a little, so to keep it from hanging down below the bottom of the dash. Yes it is a cable that plugs into the back side of the Speedo, the knob on the other end twists to reset.
Your car was one of 4 cars being built in the shop but I am sure I installed it.
May be use a hand held mirror and flash light to have a look.
Cheers

Found it, Craig! Nicely done. The knob comes right to hand when you know where to find it. i was looking for something dangling, and you fooled me by making that mount behind the dash.

Bill you had me second guessing my self, I even went through all the build pictures last night and found one picture that I could just make out the trip knob but was not clear. If you can hold a camera up under and snap a shot of it please, and send to me I would like to add it to your file.
I try to keep all my builds some what the same but some times products like gauges change design and customers like to add there own touches.
Thanks

I registered the car today. A call to the state office by my Town Clerk resulted in getting turned down on the Custom Vehicle option. I had to register as a 1996 Ford Cobra.

Stupid really, since there never was such a car.

Oh well..........Bill

Did safety inspection Thursday, since the weather was decent. Went fine.

I was concerned that 1996 might require a computer port, and that the guys might be reluctant to "fool" the system. Apparently some 1996 Fords had the port, but not all...so the inspection software has an option to say "none." Perfect.

The guys spent a lot of time going over the details of the car. Not because they were concerned about safety...just because they are car guys :-)

That's great Bill, good info for us too, so 96 is before the cut off year for plug ins.

Bill, your new car is spectacular!!!!!!!! WOW!

I have been following this thread with great interest... as I am soon to be in the same boat, figuring out how to title and register, or rather what to register "it" as! More on that when it is safe and sound in the garage

I spoke to a NH Trooper about my dilemma, a mutual friend to a bunch of us here... It sounds like there is some truth to the regs that your town clerk is quoting, but I am told that there are loop holes in the regs that permit titling and registering as the year and model the said car replicates. Subjectivity I guess is the problem! Not much we can do about that. we are simply standing on the wrong side of the counter so to speak! I would feel much better if I had this problem right now. Having been through it twice with the Cobra and the GT40. This time around is very different!

The important thing is that Bills car is on the road. I CANT wait to see it!!!

That's some hint...let's see, Cobra, GT40...maybe Daytona Coupe joining the stable?

All the credit for the car goes to Craig Coombe...all I did was manage to buy it before the rest of you got it :-)

Sure wish it was spring I was looking at instead of 15 degrees and a dusting of snow. I think it's gonna be a longer winter than usual.

Hang on for clarification on the title stuff. Tom has something started through a mutual friend who drives a green and gold car for a living and has contacts in the right places.

Bill

I was actually looking for a Daytona when I tripped over this car. Good deal I think. Payment goes out tomorrow, on the truck on Wed... Don't want to jinx it... But one more hint. Got the dyno sheets on Friday: 720.8 hp @ 7800 rpms, 628 lb-ft of tq @ 5400 rpms.

I hear ya, crazy, stinking cold here today. Was going to take the 40 out for a ride yesterday but ran out of time and figured I could get it out today. NOT!

You did well on the Hi-tech. Awesome car! Congratulations again! lets hope spring comes soon so we can get the toys back out!

Hey Bill...

Ultima GTR 720... But a huge change of events! I sent the check and got all of the paper work including the signed MSO by the mfr. Had everything in place and was working with the dealer to schedule the shipment of the car to NH. In the pkg with my ownership papers was a document that the US Customs and EPA sent to the original owner of the car stating that import of the car from Cota Rica to the states was with understanding and mandate that the car and/or drive train could NEVER be titled and registered for highway use in the United States. You can imagine with level of nausea that bought.... I had just purchaced a car that I could never title without the possibility of huge fines and confiscation of the car. I worked it out with the dealer, cancelled payment on the check and still trying to find some way around this EPA thing. The owner just figured the car could be sold as a race car and that would be that. I don't have much hope of that working out right now and back to looking for something else! It in one cool ride though!
