Oct 4 Portsmouth Hospital

Anyone interested in making an appearance on 4 Oct at the Wounded Warrior sponsored car show at Portsmouth Hospital? I saw an advertisement for it in Whips Wheels, but can't find much online. Input? More information?

Is this a wounded warrior project show? If so count me out. If you need to know why please check their financials. I just checked. It is. This Vet will not attend.

Give me a heads up also. I researched their financials and one site says they donate 58% of everything collected to their original intent. When telemarketers call me to donate to anything, I ask them the simple question----"If I gave you a hundred dollar bill, how much goes to charity"? Their answer, $15. The other 85 is eaten up in "administrative cost".
I found multiple sites that said they were no good, and as many that said they are ok, and the rest of the nay sayers are spreading lies. I need input from anyone.

Everything and other of my fellow Vets have looked into this group. They do a number of things that are good to a point. They really do not help Vets directly. They use a small portion of their funds to re-direct vets to other charities. Also, They spend Millions of dollars on advertising to raise funds. Monet that could be used to help our Vets. The CEO salary is excessive and really only donate less than 60%. I researched them for months and there are other charities out there for our Vets that are really for our vets. Another thing, WWP has sued other charities for using the wounded warriors tag.

How does the Wounded Warrior Project spend its donations? | WTKR.com

They could do more, much more. Until I see their spending on the program gets over 90% to our vets, they are off my giving list.

That is precisely why I don't do many charities as they all are like this.
That aside, anyone game to go for the fun of it as little is better than zipo

Mike
As a vet, I am on the same page with Jeff. I don't do charities. I got my "lesson" when I asked about the administrative costs, most charities give 15% to the actual charity itself. The only 2 charities I donate to is the Salvation Army and the Marine Corps Toy for Tot program. I refuse to shop at Target because they will not allow these 2 charities to be on their property.
Are we not at all interested in the Portsmouth Hospital show?

I understand Mike's position...charities that pay executives huge salaries and spend millions on advertising somehow seem scamish to me. The flip side, of course, is that without the advertising, they might not get the millions in donations...so I'm honestly not sure about my feelings...other than my clear support for programs that help our vets.

That said, I guess I'm in if Tom and Jeff want to go, too.

I'm good, I'm going. I just spoke to Gino and he is also. Probably what he and I will do is meet at my house and head over from there. You will probably come down 16?, and head over? We can meet you there. I will update later this week.
By the way, don't you answer your phone, or return phone calls?

I am in weather permitting.
What is the route plan. Meet at Tom's and go from there?

doleauto 09-30-2015 07:58 AM

OK guys, here's the deal.
I just got off the phone with Mark at Portsmouth Hospital. He said the car show is 10 - 2 Sun, if you go through the traffic circle by the liquor store in Portsmouth and go right at 1st stop light, you will see the signs to the hospital. There are also signs for the car show, it should be the 2nd driveway.
If we show up at 9:30 to register, that would be perfect.

Input? For the guys on this side of the circle, meet at my house at 9 and head from there?

Vet Charities

As a Vet, I too can't support this organization. I was always told that if you want to donate, give directly to a family in your area.
