Default Autocrossing at Weymouth

Any CC members interested in auto-crossing their cobra's in the greater boston area should check out he BMW car club site for info on future events.

i stopped by weymouth air station today after seing an article in the boston globe about the bmw club event and found it to be very professional with lots of different makes of cars in adition to bmw's....however no cobras!!!

they set up to similar tracks...one for bmw's and one for anything else that wants to run...the runs are about 2 miles in length and times were anywhere from 80 secs. to 125 secs. on the non bmw course.

might be fun if we could get a few cobras to attend the next event which i believe is in two weeks.

if anyone is interested in attending, let me know and we can put together a contingent of cobra's.

everyone got to make at least 8 runs and it looked likre they were having a great time.

Default Let's go!!!

I'm not from the Boston area, but would be willing to drive up there for some training and practice if available.

Count me in if something comes up on a weekend.

Thanks
Todd

Snakeyes, I know of a few FFR's that would definitely be interested, all from this area: plymouth, quincy, cohasset, kingston. Post the dates and we'll see you there. Bob

Hey, would this be a "Muffled" event?
I know my BB is kinda loud.
I don't want to cause any un-due aggravation.
Thanks

Todd:

don't think this is a "muffled " event since it is held out on an abandoned runway, quite distant from any housing.

i did not see(hear) any cars running open exhaust, but some were quite loud with their "stock" exhaust.

i arrived after the tech inspection had taken place, so i am not sure about the specifics of the tech , but i will check into it and let everyone know.

keep the interest coming, as it would be great to have a variety of cobras at the future events.

Some additiional info on the BMW car club autocross series being held at SO. Weymouth air station...

bmw and non bmw events are planned on the following dates:
May 18
June 29
July 27
Aug 17
Sept 8
Oct 20

you must be a BMW CC member(can register online $35.00 annual dues)..
you must pre-register for an event even if you just want to spectate..
driver' s meeting and tech inspection are mandatory...tech inspections start at 7:30, drivers meeting at 8:30..
as well as driving at the event, everyone takes a turn as a course marshall during the day..
cars are classified as to whether they are stock and as to type of tires i.e. street or racing..

they do have a driver training day this weekend, but it is already closed to additional entrees...would be great if we could get a drivers training day scheduled sometime this year for all cobra folks...something to work on..

aditional info is available at the BMW car club web site..

anyone interested in getting signed up for the event on the 18 th of May??

Angry BMW CC website info:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Boston Chapter Autocross Series dates at Weymouth have been cancelled for the rest of the year. Replacement dates at Devens have been set - please update your registrations! (May 10)

Tom and others:

i knew it was too good to be true...just went to the boston chapter bmw club site and found the same info that you did about the events being moved to the Ft. Devens facility.

So Weymouth is about a 15 min. drive from my house and Devens is about 1 hour.

Devens may be more centrally located for people to get to from various areas...i'm not in the know as to why they had to move the events to devens...hope the won't deter cobra folks from attending...i know i am still looking forward to going and participating.

who else is thinking about going?

web site for additional info is boston-bmwcca.org/

Default Autocross

I'd love to make it there.
Looks like the 18 is out though.
I really, really, really want to have some instruction and training.
I'd love to try the cobra on an autocross/road course track
once I have the skills/training.
Hope to see ya at one of these events.
