Default SCCA Races at LRP on 7-6-2002

Hey Kids:
Just wanted to post an update on the SCCA races at Lime Rock on Saturday. The wife and I got up early Saturday, hopped into SPF642 and headed to LRP for the SCCA races. The skies were clear and the roads were dry and empty. What could go wrong? The ride to the track was delightful!. 70 miles of clear road and no lights.

We arrived at the track a little after 9:00. We entered the infield (the outfield was closed) and parked the car in the middle of nowhere, since there was hardly a car there. Within a minute or so an 18 year old shows up and tells me I have to move the car. I move it. 5 minutes later another 18 year old Nazi shows up and asks me to move it again. I again comply. Within a few minutes another jerk arrives and tells me to move the car forward a foot or so. I ask why since it's obvious there will not be a big crowd today. He does not answer but begins to get into my wife's case. At that point I told him to shove it up his A%&. We got back into our car, went to the ticket booth, got our money back and had a nice ride home.

Let this be fair warning to anyone thinking of taking their Cobra to an SCCA event a LRP that parking it out of harms way is not easy. I can assure you all that I will not be part of any such events in the future.

Bob

Kudos to you, Bob.
I hope you forwarded this to the Limerock ownership and/or management. It doesn't matter whether they are to be directly held in blame or not....it happened under their aegis. Hopefully others who shared your (negative) experience will sound off, too
This type of situation is inevitable when you place youth and inexperience (and formerly powerless folks) in power....
Having watched generations of these kids go through the high school at which I used to teach, I can assure you (but it's nonetheless no comfort) that we haven't seen the last of this type of situation. Manners? Went out the door with other former "givens" (spelling, math-without-a-calculator, waiting-your-turn, etc. etc. This all came about in during the early 70's, when the campus radicals of old became the school administrators and teachers of the present. I know, I was there, trying to stem the tide of mediocrity. Makes you just want to run out and hug a liberal or ex-hippie don't it?

Chow,
