I was in your shoes a year ago.
You need to decide what you want from a car, value, faithfulness to the original ones, or even more leg room for example. Look at as many as you can, you'll be surprised at the differences that become readily apparent. Try a local club, a member is likely to reply to this thread. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
Before you take the plunge, make sure the car is right for your lists of requirements.
HAPPY HUNTING!

You can look through cobracountry.com to start. They do not necessarily need to be in your immediate area as you may have to travel some to look around.

A few helpful hints
First, ask yourself two important questions:
1) What is my REAL budget, and can I buy a finished car, turnkey, or can I only afford a kit right now?
2) (If a kit) Do I truly have the abilities to complete a kit in the next century?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See the manufacturers section of the club photo gallery, there are several good companies there.
Ask a lot of questions...It took me over 3 years of research to discover what I wanted...I am very glad I took the time to study each make. Everyone wants something a bit different.
Silversmoke,
Welcome to the "agony and the ectasy". You sound like you're in the same boat I'm in. Welcome aboard! I too am looking for a great used car but want to build a kit car for the satifaction of doing it. I can find great Cobras all day long for $35 to $40 thousand but it's not in my budget. I'm prepared to travel across the country for the right car and you should be in that mode also.
Massachusetts should be a hotbed for cars what with FFR located there. A completed car price is relative to the parts installed.
You get what you pay for. The FFR can be built for around $23K with the must have components I need but a used car that comes close can be bought for around $28K. What to do???? $5K seems like a small price to pay for having someone put the car together and paint it but lacks the satifaction of building one myself....
I'm rambling on and on but you can see how difficult it is to decide...
Good luck.
casalennie.
Silversmoke:
In addition to the other suggestions, living in MA you are close enough to visit with Factory Five in Wareham MA, ERA in New Britain CT, Team-C-Racing in Coventry CT and Bruce Botti in South Windsor CT who assembles the Unique Cobra. Will provide a good starting point on the alternatives to help in making your selection.
The latest edition of Kit Car has a complete directory with phone numbers, address, etc.
...........when the day comes, enjoy and have FUN !!!
Nope, sorry--you can't have one. We have decided that there are enough Cobras.
You may buy a Vega--enjoy.
Jamo...??
Can we open up the parameters a wee bit, and let him opt for an Opal GT, instead? He seems an agreeable chap
Silversmoke....?
Consider yourself blessed if the only abuse you suffer here is being forced to own "Bubba's Vega"
