Brisk Drive on 1-20-2003
Hey Guys:
It's been 4 weeks since I fired up old SPF642 (last winter the longest It went without running was 3 weeks) so for the last week I've had the heater going under the crankcase. Yesterday I blocked off the oil cooler and covered the bottom half of the radiator and rolled my baby out of the garage. She started after a few turns. The oil pressure hit 60 in a couple of seconds. It felt good knowing it was running on 8 quarts of Mobil1 5W-30 in the 29 degree temperature. I let her run for about 10 minutes in the driveway and then took her for a short drive to heat up the oil and circulate all the fluids. Got a lot of interesting looks as I rolled down Ocean Avenue in West Haven.
As I type this message it's back in the garage, covers on, light bulb burning in the cockpit. I hope when the weather gets warm this spring some of you fellow enthusiasts will want to go for a ride on some open roads I know of in the area. I get the feeling it may be a long cold winter.
