Does Anyone Race With Skip Barber?
For a few years now I've been doing race weekends with Skip Barber. Am I the only New England guy racing or are some of you guys there with me and I don't even know it? Although I've only raced at Lime Rock and Pocono I've driven at NHIS and Watkins Glen on occasion.
Will any of you Cobra guys be racing with Skip this season in the Eastern Series? Who's raced in the past?

No experience yet.
Need to get driver training/Car control first.
Any suggestions?
Need an inside guy with connections at the Rock or something.
Before I ever try to race I need to know how to handle the car properly.
Thanks
Todd

Hey Todd:
In order to race with Skip Barber you need to go through their 3 day race school and (a 2 day advanced course or 3 lapping days). At that point they let you race. They will also let you participate if you have had enough training at another race school or SCCA.
The first Skippy race weekend this spring is in May, I'm not sure of the date (Thursday, Friday & Saturday). You should come up to the track and watch what goes on.
My son did the 3 day last summer. When I asked him how it was going after 2 days his reply was "It's hard to go fast!". It got even harder on day 3 when he hit the outside wall in the uphill.
I have some personal in car video as well as a couple of instructional videos from Lime Rock, let me know if you're interested in seeing them.
Is the car ready? Are we cruising this summer? How about Misquamicut?

Bob,
Lots of guys in the Northeast doing Open Track with their Cobras. Is there another reason to own a Cobra?
Skip Barber is fine but if you already got a racer might as well use it.
Club Cranky at LRP, Watkins Glen, Summit Point, VIR,Pocono and this year Beaverun.
Come join us at any time,

Guys,
You can also do driver schools and lapping days with your own car running with these groups. It's reasonable cost $ 180 to $ 220 a day depending on the track. No experience is required.
They are all on the web.
www.emraracing.org
SCDA Sports car driving association
NASA Northeast
They all use tracks in the Northeast
LRP, NHIS, The Glenn, Pocono

Hey Cranky:
What the heck is Club Cranky, the people at Lime Rock have never heard of it? I've run my Porsche at LRP, NHIS, WG and Pocono and had a ball. Who do I contact about running the Cobra? Is anyone racing with Skip this year at LRP? I'll be there in July.

Bob,
The car is almost road worthy again.
The streets are almost clean.
Considering your offer to watch the Limerock school:
"The first Skippy race weekend this spring is in May, I'm not sure of the date (Thursday, Friday & Saturday). You should come up to the track and watch what goes on. "
Any up-dates?
Ae you sill goin to go?

Hey Todd:
The race weekend in May is on the 15th, 16th and 17th, I'll be flagging. In July, the dates are the 17th, 18th and 19th, I'll be racing! You should come up in May and flag, lunch is on me. Let me know if you're interested.

Bob,
What a great offer!
The only problem is, someone will have to teach me what to do.
Let me get things organized and I'll try to get there for the 17th to watch. I'll start with that, and see what I can do for June.

Bob,
Is there a program at Lime Rock that will give me some lap time in my car?

Rick:
Check the Lime Rock web site, look under schedules. I'm sure PDA has some days as well as a few other clubs. Porsche has a bunch of days but you have to part of the Porsche Club. I ran my 944 last Thursday, did 90 miles on the track.
