Default New Connecticut Emissions Program

I just left the new Connecticut State Emissions web site at www.ctemission.com and according to the state my carburated Windsor SPF has to meet the limits for a vehicle produced in the year 2000. The best part is, a buddy of mine has a 427 2x4 ERA and he does not have to be tested at all, he's exempt! Why, because the idiots at DMV registered him as a 65 while they registered me as a 2000.

Does the craziness ever end in the state?

Bob

I always thought that limited production vehicles (<500 per year) are exempt from testing. If so, your 2000 composite should also be exempt.

Drop me an email and we can discuss. I have had some good contacts at the DMV who were able to clarify the system and who is exempt.

Unhappy

Bob,

Sounds as if the California lunacy is spilling over into your state. Are you sure your Governor isn't a friend of our Emperor ? That type of stuff is the norm here and has been for as long as I can remember.

Ron

Although I'm from Mich and not CT the emissions issue can be a mystery. I'm in the process of installing a P/T in my Cobra that I know would not pass tail pipe testing if it should come back to Mich (and there is recent press that it will). At the recent Woodward Dream Cruise I asked some of the cobra owners what they would do if mandatory testing returned and most answered that our cars should be exempt??? I know from reading other treads that in some states this is not true. The problem is if you try to be proactive on this, no one knows how a future law may be written, so I am reluctantly moving forward with my current build plans hoping some day that I won't have to replace cam, intake, heads, etc.

Default Request for Exempt Status

Will post the reply to my e-mail inquiry, I thought the Cobra ( Composite ) would have automatically received exempt status.

Subject: Request for Exempt Status

RE: CT38538

Above is a 1966 Cobra kit car which according to the DMV had to be registered as a 2000 Composite. THe DMV assigned the year to represent the first year registered in CT. Prior to CT, the Cobra kit car was registered in the state of Wisconsin as a 1966 Ford. The engine is a 1966 Ford 351W . Requesting this vehicle be classified as a special interest and given exempt status due to the year of the engine and the designation of Composite
