Default Winter in Connecticut, Can you say 0W-30?

A typical winter scene this year. Why would anyone want to live in southern California or Florida?

Hi Bob.
Funny you mentioned moving. My wife has been teasing me about how much more I could drive my Cobra if we moved to Florida. We have talked alot about it the past year as all our girls are out of college now. I look in the garage and see my car sitting there hoping i could take it for a drive, but don't want to look like and idiot at 10 degree's out.
This may be our last year here. With the house values going nuts here in our town and still fairly reasonable on the west coast of florida it is time to take the chance and do it.
No tag sales for us. We are going to put everything we don't want on the front lawn this spring and let them have it. Then on monday am a dumpster to junk the rest. Even the hottub!!

Hey Guys:
Now that every Cobra in Connecticut kept in an unheated garage has a temperature of about 20 degrees, a nice warm moist mass of air is headed up the coast. This means that by about Thursday all of these lucky cars will be below the dew point. Once the front gets here all these cars will look like a cold can of Coke on a humid summer day.

Do yourself a favor and hang a 60 watt light bulb in the cockpit on one of the pedals. It may keep the wiring from getting wet. I also put one under the crankcase in an effort to keep the engine above the dew point.

I bought one of those car capsuls.
A pretty cool invention, let's see if it works.
The little fan is to keepa steady flow of air around the car to keep it dry.
I'll let you know on Wednesday.

Hey Todd:
Is the air in the bag dry or just dust free?

The bag is a very heavy gage clear, flexible plastic with a medium size 12 volt computer fan on one end. The fan runs continuiously keeping a low flow of air through the bubble. The is leakage of air around the zipper at the bottom. Total air pressure inside of the bubble is around 2 psi or so (my guess).

I will try and get a picture posted tonight.

Hey Bob!
Yah, I have the bulb in the cockpit as well as a 40W just under the engine. I placed a sheet of aluminum under the bulb in the cockpit just in case the fixture ever let loose and let the bulb touch the cockpit carpet.

I started the car up just before the big snow a while back. It was good to hear her come to life. Other than that, it is just too darned cold to work out there now. I am all set to do a starter button install. But that will have to wait for a while.

Todd, That greenhouse bag sounds nice. BTW, have you emailed me and signed up for the Northeast Cobra Enthusiasts mailing list?? Somehow your name does not ring a bell.

Cheers

Here's what my good friend and fellow Cobra enthusiast, Rogers, think of the Missouri weather lately.

Alright,
The bubble/bag works awesome.
No condensation at all.
The car is dry as the day it went into the cover.
Well worth the $350.
No dust, not water, clean and ready to roll.
Just as soon as they clean the streets.

Todd-
I saw the car capsule at a car show last spring and thought about getting one, glad to know they work well. Is this the company you got it from http://www.carcapsule.com/ Also, what size did you get? Did you get the 18 footer or something smaller? If I remember correctly they had some that were smaller- 14 or 15 ft?

Thanks.

Chaplin,
I'll have to check the size of the one I bought when I get home tonight.
I thought it was the smallest car size available (12').
I just fits inside of it.
Yes, it is the company.

Bob,
If you want to stop in on Saturday, that would be fine.
I moved to Haddam now so your best bet is to take Rt 80 to Rt 81 North.

Send me an email at thedges@tcco.com

The one I purchased is the 12' model.

Heads up Guys...

This upcoming Sunday, Feb. 22 is supposed to be a "nice" day with highs in the low to mid 40's. Sat. the 21st is supposed to be rainy, which should wash down the roads and perhaps clean them up. I think I may try to get the Cobra out for a slow ride on Sunday. I suspect my wife will NOT be wanting to venture out but I am hankerin' to bring some life back to the beast.

Fingers crossed...

Thumbs up

Just got back from a nice drive today Feb, 22, 2004. Went out at about 1 PM (43 Degrees F) and other than swerving around some snow melt slicks and puddles (which were few), the roads were nice and "Half Full" ran well and happy. The suspension seemed a bit more firm but that I attribute to the cold weather and the hardened bushings and tires.

Once the big block warmed up the heat that flows into the cockpit was welcomed. Coming to a full stop at a stop sign or traffice light allowed you to feel the toasty heat just fill the air.

Drivin' these cars is just wonderful. Last time out was Christmas Day so I am long overdue. Ah, bliss.

We Cobra Philes in the North are often denied from using our cars due to the weather and cold, but on the other hand, when we do get out, it is a cherished moment. That said, we all want more of them cherished moments that you Southern guys get year round.

Cheers.
