MARCH 2004 EDITION - NEW ENGLAND COBRA ENTHUSIASTS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well guys and gals, it looks like Winter is just about behind us as I
type this missive to you all. I say that will tounge in cheek as we had a nice "6" inches of snow over the last three days here in Southern New England.
None the less, we had a few nice windows of opportunity to take the Cobra out when the weather cooperated and the roads were dry and clean.
Bob and I got out on the roads for a short jaunt a few weeks ago. It was fun.
Its time to get the cars ready for the Spring. Check or change the fluids and pressures.
Make a punch list of tasks to perform... you know the drill.
There are, at last count 30 of us now on this Mailing List and our numbers keep growing....
To join just send me an email with your CLUB COBRA ID, your state, your city or regional state area if you are paranoid, your Cobra make and model and some data about yourself. You do not have to have a Cobra to be a member of the list, future Cobra owners are always welcome. Its simple to join our ranks, just do it!
Events:
Southern Connecticut :
April 10th, 2004, 3rd Annual West Haven WPLR CLASSIC Car and Rod Show.
The show starts at 10am to 3pm at the West Haven Convention Center, 6 Rock Street, West Haven, CT (use
www.mapquest.com for directions) Addmission is $10.00 per car, with proceeds going to the CT Food Bank (A Good Cause). The first 50 cars get a WPLR license plate bracket (be still my beating heart), trophies for car classes. No Rain Date. No Burn Outs. No rolling Boom Boxes.
If your Cobra is not rollin' or ready to make this early season run, plan on driving down in your daily driver and meet us there anyway!
(West Haven is along the CT coastline between New Haven and Milford along I-95 and near the intersection of I-91. 60 miles from NYC, 60 Miles from Hartford. This area is the site of the former famous Savin Rock amusment park and it is a large outdoor parking lot situated right along Long Island Sound. There are always roller bladers, kite flyers and a real nice shoreline walk available. A few great seafood and hotdoog stands dot the shoreline, (of note are Chick's, Jimmies and Captain's Galley)
It would be nice for all of us attending to meet there at 9:30 AM so we could all park together and get to gab. Bring a folding chair and layers of clothes as the wind could be
a factor if it is onshore from the sound. My cell phone is 203-260-6544 (I can only hear it or feel vibrate if my Cobra engine is off 8-)
North Western CT - The Rolex Classic Sports Car Races and Show -
Show Date, Sunday September 5th, 2004 and Lime Rock Park Raceway
www.limerock.com Perhaps this is the largest congregation of authentic and replica Cobras in the North East. Last year there were at least 50 Cobras in attendance. Plan on being there if the weather is good.
If you know of or are planning or attending other NE Cobra Enthusiast events or shows, please let us know.
Bob and I are planning the First Annual Lobster Roll - so far this is in the early stages of vision sharing but we see the event being a nice long drive along the CT coast ending up at a famous pervayor of suculent Lobster Meat.
Roster of List Members (There are 30 of us as of 3/22/2004):

Stu Sherman is about to be receiving his second Cobra, a Kirkham 289 FIA in raw polished aluminum. His current Shelby CSX4xxx Cobra is looking for a new home and is listed for sale on
www.cobracountry.com . Contact Stu at
sasxray@hotmail.com for info on his CSX4XXX.
Sal Gianino is about to receive his first Cobra, an ERA 427 S/C with a Keith Kraft Shelby Big Block 427 SO. Nice machine and nice guy.
Mike Potito is in the ERA build queue if memory serves. In the meantime Mike is driving a stable of high performance vehicles which keep him busy and more than amused.
Rick Lake has just received a new Aluminum Shelby CSX 428 engine for his ERA which is used for racing and run & gun events. Rick hales from down NJ way.
Neil and Julie Mattison, so far the most northern members, are about to take a ride in their new stroked 392 A&C. Neil just finished the build and wants to hook up with other northern NECE members.
Mike Daversa has just joint the list and although he does not have a Cobra (yet) he has the DNA.
Rick Gregg and Ann Cochran run a black SPF #1352 out on the Cape, welcome aboard!
Pat & Sandy Slosek are also new members out on the Cape as well and put fuel into their ERA 289 FIA #2039.
Al Wolstrom is putting the final touches on his new Kirkham and hopes to be on the road for the April 10th Rod Show, just waiting for his Tremec trannie to arrive...
Greg Buck and his FFR join! Greg is from Rhode Island and is the first RI member on the list. He would like to explore New England this summer with other Cobra enthusiasts!
Jim Foster has just joined the NECE and is thinking about building his own car, perhaps a Kirkham. He would like to talk to other Kirkam owners who did their own fabrication work.
Jim Holden has joined us. Jim is a very experienced ERA fanatic and builder with a ERA 289 FIA to drive while he is fabricating his ERA GT40. Jim hales from Westchester County in NY near CT.
