Default NE Cobra Enthusiasts - April 10th Meeting - CT Rod Show

Hi GANG!

The CONNECTICUT NE Cobra Enthusiasts will be meeting on Saturday April 10th at the WPLR benefit car and rod show.

All are invited to attend, preferably with (or without) your Cobras. Details below...

Southern Connecticut :

Saturday - April 10th, 2004, 4th Annual West Haven WPLR 99.1FM CLASSIC Car and Rod Show.

The show starts at 10AM and goes on until 2 PM at the West Haven Convention Center (right next to Jimmies Restaurant), 6 Rock Street, West Haven, CT (use www.mapquest.com for directions) Addmission is $10.00 per car, with proceeds going to the CT Food Bank (A Good Cause).

The first 50 cars get a WPLR license plate bracket (be still my beating heart), trophies for car classes.

No Rain Date. No Burn Outs. No rolling Boom Boxes.

WE WILL MEET AT 9:30 AM AT "TURKS" PARKING LOT WHICH IS A RESTAURANT JUST ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE CAR SHOW. THIS WILL ALLOW US TO ENTER AS A GROUP AND PARK TOGETHER.

(West Haven is along the CT coastline between New Haven and Milford along I-95 and near the intersection of I-91. 60 miles from NYC, 60 Miles from Hartford. This area is the site of the former famous Savin Rock amusment park and it is a large outdoor parking lot situated right along Long Island Sound. There are always roller bladers, kite flyers and a real nice shoreline walk available. A few great seafood and hotdoog stands dot the shoreline, (of note are Chick's, Jimmies and Captain's Galley)

Bring a folding chair and layers of clothes as the wind could be a factor if it is onshore from the sound.

So get those cars down off the jackstands, get them started and on the road Amigos!

This should be a fun time. If you car is not finished or "registered" yet (Stu!) we still hope you will show up and meet with us.

Seee Yaa! AND IF YOU ARE ATTENDING, PLEASE POST A REPLY HERE NOW!!

Art,

I'm looking forward to it but I hope the weather stays dry. I'll be without the car if necessary.

Car might have the winter haze on it since it's not warm enough in my garage to wax.

Stu, sorry you cannot make it. Weather should be in the low 60's and just a beee-u-tee-full day.

Roger, see you there!

Just put the Turkey Pan on #375 just now. Have to sort out my throttle return spring position but she seems to run well. Sure is tight around the carb with the turkey pan on. Looks supa' though.

Art,

I was actually planning on driving down(M3) even though I am on call(was not coming in the Cobra...can't quite take it to work if I got called), anyway just got off the phone and unfortunately I have to be in to work at 10 am and it will take a few hours. Ah well...best laid plans. We are going on vacation for the next two weekends but will be back in town for 4/25 if there is anything else going on. Otherwise next free weekend is 5/8. Enjoy the show.

Hi Art.
It's 8:30 am Saturday. Went out side and figured it would be regular car day. It is to cold for an open Cobra ride of over and hour.

Default Show Report

Well Gang,
Saturday April 10 was just a beautiful day weather wise at the WPLR Rod and Custom show in West Haven. Four NECE Cobras attended...

Chuck Apfel CAPFEL and his Everette Morrison made the scene. Chuck's EM is very well appointed with a dark tan leather interior and really fine upholstry. Something that I neve knew about the EM was just how heavy duty the fibreglass components are. Chuck's engine hood, for instance, is just about a two hand affair to open and lift. These are well built cars. Chuck and his wife braved the early morning snappy weather to motor down to the show.

A really nice dark green ERA arrived with smiling John BUZZR Buzzuto all the way down from Berlin, CT. John's ERA is just a beauty and John is a gregarious and great guy as was his friend and co-pilot.

Bob in CT made the scene in SuperFormance #642. Bob as always is just a great wealth of knowledge. A new Superformance Jacket, embroidered with a likeness of #642 was a new addition (along with matching afgan for Noreen). Bob's old Cobra Torino arrived at the show sans hood and superblown. He was in heaven (no West Haven) to see his former ride so well taken care of.

Dave Wachnicki all the way down from North Conway NH made the show. Dave is ordering an ERA 289 FIA and was killing 4 birds with one show as it were... He visited ERA, his mother, his daughter in college and other NECE's at the show. Dave is a real nice guy and his new ERA sounds like it will be too.

Mike Kingery (jmkingpin) from Rye NY showed up with pictures of his new Backdraft which is on its way up from Florida in a car trailer as we type. Mike is really jazzed about his new car and cannot wait to get on the road once it arrives!

Lastly, we met and talked with many many folks who were Cobra Crazy and whos names escape me. A nice young gentleman (Roger Cormier? Ok so from the post below this was NOT Roger, who what this??) and his wife drove down from Mass?/VT/NH? to meet with us he being originally from Calgary. He is going to be buiding a Cobra some day soo.

Also we me another gent who is just about ready to register his new TEAM CR Venom here in CT. He and Kingery were in the same situation... just a few more days...

Brian from TEAM CR Venom was down in his hot supercharged Mustang.

A nice couple just in the order phase at ERA drove their white Harley to the show. They were from just north of Danbury but I do not remember their names (please reply to this ok??)... sorry...

The blurr of Battle as it were... ahem...

Lastly there were perhaps 40 or 50 folks who were sincere Cobra admirers in the truest sense who stopped by to just jawbone and admire the 4 NECE Cobras at the show.

We all discussed a nice LOBSTER ROLL cruise event, perhaps some time in June where we would all gather somewhere along the coastline and cruise East only to end up at a good lobster shack for a feast.

Thanks all for coming down and meeting us.

Lastly, all of you who were at the show, and who are "lurkers" here on Club Cobra, welcome aboard!

Caio' & Happy Easter!

Hi Art,

I'm the guy who originates from Calgary, now residing in New Hampshire, who drove down to New Haven with my wife just to check out the Cobras in your club. We had a great time doing it too! You guys are a fun bunch of people, and were really informative regarding your cars. I especially would like to thank Bob In Ct for letting me sit in his Superformance! I'm convinced now that I NEED a Cobra. :>

Robin.

Sounds like a good turnout! I'm sorry I missed it, I was looking forward to the ride across the ferry in the Cobra. Instead I spent the whole day evicting squirrels from my garage. They were not Cobra enthusiasts so they had to go.

Art,

Great outing. It really adds something when people with common interests meet and mix.

Usually at car shows its dog-eat-dog. As a group it becomes a social event.

More...more...more.
