Lime Rock Vintage Rolex Race & Show
On September 4th (Friday), 5th (Saturday) and 6th (Sunday) Lime Rock Park will be hosting the Rolex Vintage Sports Car Races and Show.
Friday and Saturday are Goodwood'ish with class racing of vintage cars.
Sunday (the 6th) is a non-race day at Lime Rock and the infield and track side is the setting for one of the more awesum displays of vintage racing and sports cars.
We Cobra owners meet up on the infield right at the beginning of the S'es at the end of the straight-away with our cars. This should be a great weekend. Tickets are available now online at a discount.
If the weather is nice on Sunday, I hope to see you all there with your Cobra! So put the Sunday date away and lets do a rolecall of who is planning to show up?
Here is the link to the event data....

The big race day is Monday, Labor Day. This show is not cheap, be sure to get your tickets in advance at AAA. The reason they have the show on Sunday is because Litchfield County does not allow racing on Sunday.
I've always had the feeling at this show that if you don't have a Cobra build in the 60s or a Shelby Mustang you're considered a second class citizen. Regardless, I'll be there. The ride up 254 and 63 makes the day worthwhile. Be careful on Route 8, the new sealant the state is using will get all over your car.

Route 8 is the best way to Lime Rock from the Bridgeport/New Haven area. From anywhere else it can be avoided.

This is really one of the great events of the summer and last year the weather was spectacular. The Show of Shelbys is a geat collection of cars. Weather permitting, I will be there. I have already adjusted my schedule so I am not on call.
Blackjack, from Virginia you could either pick up Rt. 7 in CT up to 112 but I would recommend 684 North from White Plains to Rt.22 North to Millerton, NY. Pick up Rt. 44 East and then 112 to the track.
Bob and Art: I am closer to Rt.22 so that is how I may go. But I also know the back roads to get to Kent without using route 7. Rt. 8 for me is a great road as well but too far East for me to use to get to LRP.
This is an event that every auto enthusiast should not miss.

As a member of New England SAAC, welcome. The Sunday Show of Shelbys is always impressive. Usually the show cars stretch all the way around Big Bend, continuing all the way through the esses. The main straight is filled with Concours cars. See you there.

Tony:
Consider the Ferry to Bridgeport. It will save you a lot of nasty road and traffic. I can meet you guys in Bridgeport and show you some nice roads on the way to the track.

The preliminary weather forecast for Sunday looks favorable. AAA has tickets for sale at a discount rate if you are a member.

Tony: I have taken the Bridgeport ferry a couple of times around this tjme of year and I would suggest that you book as soon as you can - round trip if you plan on it, because the ferry's fill up real fast on the weekends, especially this being a Holiday weekend.
See you at Nick's.....

Bruce...By the concensus last saturday only the East End guy's are willing to consider the Ferry and not drive through the city.
I hope they take your advice and make reservations. They should also contact Bob in Ct for the route up to Lime Rock from Bridgeport and maybe drive up with him.
redsc400...What's the cost through AAA for the event, and do you know the show car entry fee.

Tony:
The cost per person for Sunday is $18 via AAA vs $25 at the gate.
There is no cost to enter you car in the Shelby American display which is on the infield track. In past years the Shelbys are displayed on the edge of the track in the Esses (at the end of the straight away).
To get to the infield area, you must not enter the park via the general parking lot but rather enter at the main gate. At least that is the way it was in year's past.
To my knowledge, there is no cost to enter your car. Our cars will not be in the Concourse judging competition, just on display.
A word of advice, you must behave when driving on the track. The Viper guys have be "un-invited" as a result of some very teenage like behavior while on the track.
The show on Sunday starts at 10 AM and ends at 2 PM ish.
It could take you about one hour to get there from Bridgeport.
You should bring some chairs to sit on as this will be a long day.
Cheers

Art...thanks for the info, I'll be going to AAA tomorrow for tickets. I called the track today and I was told there was an entry fee for show cars. Maybe that was for the concours show cars and not for the shelby display. Either way we'll find out Sunday.

Hello All:
Just got an Email from SAAC. The Show of Shelbys will be (as usual) from big bend to the esses. Enter at turn 6 (infield entrance), go counter clockwise to show. SAAC says it's $15 per person to enter the track, 3 bucks for the car at the show.
Carl requested that all cars be driven in a reasonable manner. If not, we will suffer the same fate as the Vipers did a couple of years ago.
Tony, am I meeting anyone at the Ferry?

Bob...I know that Steve and Phil said they were taking the Ferry and suggested they contact you. I'll confirm tomorrow.
I'll also let the guy's know about driving on the track. I wouldn't want one of us to screw things up for everybody else.

If they're not on the 7:00 boat (arriving at 8:15) I will meet them at the track. I can also accomodate a 7:15 arrival if I have to.
