Default Insurance in New Hampshire

Does anyone have any additional suggestions for insurance companies in New Hampshire for a Cobra? I'm shopping around and have discovered:

AON and Haggerty do not insure Cobras, AHI will only insure minimum liability (25/50K), Grundy wants a huge premium.

Classic Insurance and Condon & Skelly seem both pretty reasonable and so I'm follwing up with them, but would appreciate any other suggestions and comments from this members with regard to people's experience with reliability and/or claims behavior of these or any other companies.

I am no pro on Cobra insurance since I am still shopping for a car. But I am from NH.
I have a buddy who has an FFR in town and I will get some infor from him.
Also, you may want to check the local club section here and get some e-mail info on others that may be in the area.
Another shot is the FFR website, for owners in NH. I believe there
were some NH owners listed when I was picking their brains.

Hi Walrus,
Looked into both Condon & Skelly and Classic Insurance. Both were fairly even on coverages but went with Classic because they were able to meet our umbrella policy. Good luck. Where in NH are you located? Sounds like you are having fun driving in this crisp weather. Had a great ride yesterday (high 40's). Any recommendations on snow tires? ;^)

Walrus,
I have had mine insured with my local State Farm agent for years. I have had my homeowners and autos with them for over 20 years so that may make a differance. I have no restrictions on driving it. We did set an agreed value and I chose to have a very high deductable. The cost is about $450 for a 6 month season. (In the winter I drop coverage to comprehensive only.) The agenent is Pete Schuler, phone 882-4190.

Dave,
Snow tires, Up there in N. Conway you're gona need a set of chains soon enough.
Actualy next spring we should get in touch. I come up to Conway about once a month to visit my mother in law. She lives on Westside road.

I got various rejection reasons last year when I got my SPF Cobra including:

Not in MA
Sorry, no kit cars - no replicars
Must be an original Cobra with VIN # starting in CSX (Grundy)
Physical damage only, get liability thru another company
Only if value is above $75K

I'm sure that some Cobra owners have insurance thru many companies that rejected me, but many are no longer writing insurance for Cobras or any collector cars in MA. No luck with Grundy, Haggerty, Condon & Skelley, Leland West, three local agents, State Farm, NE Classic Auto (Mike Smith), Midwest (Robbin Terry), Classic Auto Ins (Drew Yagodnik)

After about 8 hours on the phone, I hit paydirt ... thanks to recommendation of local appraiser.

American Collector Car Insurance in NJ
www.americancollectors.com
800-360-2277
They have underwriters that deal specifically with MA collector car insurance
I talked with Diane K on ext 251

Did not need appraisal, but long list of stuff and conditions that were not any problems:

Must be garaged
Optional coverage only up to coverage you have on your daily driver
Must have proof of another car as the daily driver
2,500 miles max per year
No restriction on time or where driven (any day, any function)
No racing, track or timed events coverage

Coverage - basic limits except #3 (Uninsured Motorist), #5 (Bodily Injury) and #12 (Underinsured Motorist) set at $100/300K (their max). Damage to Someone's Property #4 set at $50K

$50,000 "Agreed" Policy for Collision & Comprehensive (#7 and #9) with
$500 deductible (full coverage on glass)

Cost for year only $320.00. The lowest cost with no optional coverage would have been about $275, so for an extra 50 bucks I got the max coverage they had.

Fantastic! Especially when I got a quote of $2,364.00 for same coverage from my agent if I wanted to insure it just like a daily driver!

Their web site says it takes 12-14 business days, but that includes mailing time both ways. I did an overnight mail on a Friday and got insurance approval on Tuesday (tel call) and the RMV form in Thursday mail.

Found out another interesting tidbit. In MA, their is no such thing as AGREED Value policy. Its actually a Stated Value of $XXX, but it is not depreciated with time or usage. Therefore, it technically is an agreed amount, its just that MA terminology and laws are what drives insurance companies away from our screwed up state.

Since I work for my agent I must assume he has done the right thing. We insurance under our regular auto policy on and agreed value policy with Commerce Insurance, I get a multi car 5% and another 5% for being a member of AAA discount plus I benefit from my safe driver status. I drive the car alot and have no restrictions on mileage I carry high limits to tie into my personal umbrella policy. I pay eight hundred and some change for the Cobra valued at $ 50,000.00
