Cobra Emissions Testing: New CT System
With the new CT emissions testing now in operation, it would be helpful if everyone in CT with a Cobra, GT 40, etc or any type of replica/kit car could share their experiences. my test date is not until next summer.
Some of the items, please add your thoughts, that could be mentioned are: * Pass or Fail * Engine, SB or BB and est HP * Fuel Injection or Carb * Set up, mild, medium or radical * Compression ratio * Tested on rollers or static * Comment on the expertise of the garage * Test standards for HC, CO, and NO * Registered as a Composite or ? Note: I plan to have with me my original emissions test report in case the test standards have changed with the new system. I have requested the test standards, but have not received a reply. On the 2000 test, the 351W passed very easily when using the Composite standards. The 2000 test standards, maximum limit, used for my Cobra were: HC: 484.0 Tested @ 99.4 CO: 5.09 " @ 1.99 NO: 3182.0 " @ 189.3 Thanks........this will help all of us......, especially if we experience any challenges ( smile ) |
Hi Don:
This is a timely subject. My test date for having a test done to my Cobra was in the recent past when the so called system was in a "hold" status. That said, I have never received a notification in the mail to schedule an appointment and have the Cobra tested. (this is also true for a few other cars I own as well). I really hope that I am not in violation as a result. So for now, I am holding tight and doing nothing until I hear from them via the postcard or whatever. Here is the location on the web for the latest infor regarding test dates and whatnot. It is a pdf http://www.ctemissions.com/QAFinal.pdf This whole subject makes me feel less than happy. Cheers |

Thanks for the Q & A, great summary which I had not previously seen. If you go to the following web site and enter the VIN for each vehicle, the new test date should be available. http://www.ctemissions.com/testdate.html ......continue to smile as we go forward with the new challenge, especially after having met success with the registration process HAPPY HOLIDAYS !! Agbar and CT DMV Emissions
I sent the following inquiry to Agbar and CT DMV Emissions dated 12/12/04, have not received a reply, will post when I do
Has anyone had their Cobra tested with the new Agbar system. IF so,results are ? Agbar & CT DMV Emissions Three questions regarding the CT Emissions Testing : I have a 2000 Composite , enclosed a copy of the previous Vehicle Emission Report # 862316. 1. Are the HC, CO, and CO Maximum Limits still the same with the new testing program with consideration that the CT DMV classifies the vehicle as a Composite ? Year of vehicle being the year registered in CT. 2. For open vehicles ( no top ), antique, special interest, replica/kit cars etc., that are stored and not driven during the winter months, my understanding, the late fee is waived if proof is provided that the Liability insurance is temporarily suspended while the vehicle is in storage ? If there is a winter test date, does Agbar and CT DMV need to be notified the vehicle is in storage and how does a new test date get assigned ? 3. The 2000 Composite is a 1966 Cobra replica. Is a static or roller test used ? I have included my e-mail address, to facilitate a reply. Thanks |
Response from CT DMV Emissions
The maximum limits when originally tested in Sept 2000:
HC: 484 CO: 5.09 NO: 3182 Note the CO has been reduced to 4.0, I have requested an explanation as to the reason. EXACT COPY OF E-MAIL SENT TO ME: Thank you for writing to the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles The DMV is always working to improve customer service. We hope that this process will give you the service you need and answer the questions you have. Composite vehicles are required to be tested every two years until the vehicle is twenty five years old. The test for a composite vehicle is a two speed idle with the cut points for HC @ 800 PPMs and CO @ 4.0 percent. If your test date happens be when the vehicle is off the road, , and you can show proof ( ETC suspension of liability insurance or storage bills) the DMV will give a 6 month extension. This extension only delays any late fees and reg issues the test dates remain the same every two years and the only way to change the date is go in more than 90 days before your test due date. Please call me if you have any further questions. _ Dan Jalbert Contract Compliance officer Department of Motor Vehicles Emissions Division PH 203-805-6230 _ Again, thank you for writing to the Department of Motor Vehicles. E-Question
What year was the VIN issued on the cars on this thread?
|
Clark.......my Composite VIN was in 2000

E-Followup
Don;
The way the regs read, is everything 4-years and newer get an exemption along with anything 25 years and older. Okay, lets see, that would mean my car built in 1993 with an engine built in 1965 and registered as a 2001 would be exempt. The other one, built in 2002 the engine 1968 vintage and registered in 2003 would be exempt. How in the world does this logic work? The owners of these vehicles in some cases use technolgy from four decades ago, others modern technolgy capable of passing the existing regulations. This is at best not very thoughtful regulation!:JEKYLHYDE |
Cobra Tested ?
Has anyone had their Cobra tested ?
The garage that tested my Honda yesterday has not had any Composites , looks like it's still too early . I would imagine late March and early April will be the first dates for testing the Composites which were stored for the winter. |
