SAAC New England Spring Show - April 17th
April 17, 2005 (Sunday) with Rain Date of April 24th
Manchester, CT. SAAC New England Spring Show at Mustang's Unlimited in Manchester, CT. Show up at about 9 AM.
Call Carl Gagnon, (860) 623-1366 for more info.
Sadly, I will be traveling on a Business Trip that day so will not be able to attend (I am praying for RAIN) this year. However, last year I did attend (along with Bob from CT), and there were perhaps 15 Cobras there with loads of Mustangs and Saleens.
The SAAC New England site has a different date which according to Carl, was just recently changed to the 17th. Cost to enter your car is not known, but it was $10 last year. Voting for cars in specific classes. Cobra replicas are in the "Special Interest" category.... along with Ford T-Buckets and customized golf carts.

This year will again see 15 Cobras and one Mercury Comet which will get 12 of the 162 votes cast and win the class since the Cobras will each get 10 votes each.
If they wanted to do this right SAAC would have a class exclusively for Cobra replicas. Regardless, I will probably go since I enjoy getting together with the other owners. Trophies are at 4:00, Noreen and I leave around 2:00.

Hi Bob:
I called Gagnon (Of the NE SAAC), and reminded him of our plea from last year to have a "Cobra Replica" class. He was sympathetic but admitted that even the original 1964 - 1966 Cobras would be in the Special Interest category. We have to keep trying on this aspect. It is a great show. I am so sorry to miss it....
I am hoping for a rainout on the 17th so I can attend on the 24th. I especially want to see some of the 2005 GT V8 Mustangs up close. (You cannot find one on a dealers lot). I am thinking of ordering one. Will be going to the NY Auto Show today after visiting a few customers down in the City.
Started up the ERA last Sunday after lowering off of the jack stands. Surprisingly, she started right up on the first crank. Usually after such a long lay over (Since Jan 1) quite a few cranks are necessary. Must have been the new NGKs I had just installed.

Originals would be in the "special interest" category? Why don't they just call it a Mustang show and be done with it? Hellloooooo it's called SAAC! Think it's time for the New England Cobra owners to take over control of this regional SAAC- kick some a$$ and take some names!
How about a mass Cobra burnout session in the parking lot of Mustangs Unlimited?
Just kidding of course. Always tough to find that fine line between "fun" and "illegal."

I'll be there the 17th, with Linda
Bob & Art,
This year I'll try to attend with the Cobra.
In case you didn't hear, I was suppossed to have my Cobra go through emissions on 3/31/05, but the test was aborted when the testing site couldn't convince the Agbar supervisor (via camera & phone) that the car was too low to back onto the rollers.
On Monday 4/11 the Agbar inspector is coming down to the test station to see for himself.
I think the alternate test, called a two speed test, is the alternate test used for these situations. This is the same emissions test given to trucks.
I think the only requirement for passing is that you can argue loudly and can afford to waste $20.
Looking forward to seeing you'all soon.

Art,
I heard a rumor that you re-registed the COBRA onto antique plates.
Is this true? If so, was the title changed?
What's the scoop?

I believe in CT cars with antique plates give up their title.

I hope to see some cobras at the show on the 17 th I plan on bringing csx3318. Any other originals planning on attending? I too think there should be an exclusive class for the cobras. Original or not, who cares. I do feel as though the originals should be able to park with the shelbys. I like others just go to see the cars and my friends and usually leave well before 4:00.

Jay,
I went to the SAAC show in Manchester CT last year without car, but, for the most part the COBRAS all parked together by choice. We all are freinds, or quickly become freinds.
As I remember all the COBRAS were replicas as I don't remenber seeing any originals. There were many Mustangs, Shelby Mustangs, Saleen Mustangs, Mustangs original and restored.
My car is an Everett-Morrison replica circa 1995. I'm sure we can squeeze in an original or two.

I am still traveling and wish I could of been there, will make next year. I am glad there are some original CSX that may attend. Wish I could of been there to see. I agree with Jay Bentley CSX, CCX, ERA, FFR, or UM they are all great fun. The important thing is getting them out for the drive! Driving them made them famous!
Regards,
Jeff

Jeff:
You did not miss a lot. The show had far fewer cars than in past years. I made the noon run to the show in the old Saturn. I only saw two Cobras. Others may have left by then. Chuck has the full story.
It could be that years of running a show badly finally caught up with SAAC. I left after 3:00 and the trophies had still not been given out.

Bob,
Did you get my e-mail about passing the CT emissions test?
The car also passed but had to study harder.
Chuck
PS- Got 2nd Place in the SAAC show by default as the other Cobra's left. It is a nice trophy so I stayed. 1st Place went to someone in a silver FFR that left early and had more votes. He was from MA.

Terrible show. MU gets worse and worse each year. They had trouble raffling t-shirts away for crying out loud.

Cashburn,
Agree, I had one foot out the door until I realized I'd be trophied by default.
It wasn't well advertised and the "Replica" class was added at the last minute after the SAAC folks told everyone that there wouldn't be a Replica class.
kanuck - The trunk was so full that my wife left the camera home. It was camera or drinks. She chose drinks.
Next time.
