John,

Beautiful car. This may sound strange but I recognized the engine work from the air filter he uses. BTW, I have a SPF (Bill Andrews did engine build) but it sure is fun...great car. See you at the Cobras in Mtns.

I will be there for Saturday's festivities, depending on weather.

For others planning on attending, I would recommend getting in touch with Chris to get an update on the events.

Best-

He called me last week and it sounded like he was pulling the plug on the event due to a low turnout. My wife and I will be going anyway.

Same here, sounds like a perfectly fine excuse for a run up there anyway!

Default Total Number of Cobra's Going?

I just talked with Chris regarding a room. He said that the schedule of events has changed because only 6 to 8 cars have signed up for the event.

I'd like to attend, but I have a 200 mile ride up from Quincy (just south of Boston), and the Weather Channel now says intermittant and/or scattered thundershowers on Fri and Sunday in the Stowe area. Hopefully that will change.

My longest trip so far has been about 50 miles (I'm a newbie) and I cannot get in or out of car with soft top on the Cobra (I'm 6' 6"), so its a permanent convertible.

Chris understands that such a long drive to see less than 10 Cobras with threat of rain on my travel days might be a dissapointment. I told him I would call him on Thursday to see if the interest has increased.

Reading the threads on this post - I expected more. But I know that some local Cobra's "may" be showing up without booking a room. Does Chris know that?

Does anyone one have a handle on the number of Cobra that will just drive up for the show and drive and try to skip out on the things that you have to pay for like BBQ, dinners, luch, etc?

Chris may be a great guy, he loves cars, but all the work to put together a Cobra event with less than 10 booked rooms is NOT going to make any profit for the Inne.

P.S. - Is the NE Cobra Enthusiast an actual club with a president, secretary, etc, or just Cobra owners who communicate thru this forum? I ask, because I posted a thread "Join?" about a month ago and have not recieved any reply from an owner in the New England area.

Warren -

Now's the time for that shake down cruise!

We just got back from the Upstate summer run in Lake George, NY and got lucky with the rain (it didn't). You're SPF won't melt and it drys out real fast

Actually, the low return rate for the Stowe event may have a lot more to do with $350 / night rates than any other reason. A number of us locally have asked for day rates and Chris has chosen not to reply. There are quite a few Cobras within an hour or so of Stowe but no one is going to go if he won't respond. Next year, consider the Lake George event. Lots of cars and a great group of people. And the Hotelier isn't trying to drum up business.
As for a New England group, I think the issue is someone needs to organize and most of us don't seem inclined to do the organizing. A couple of us discussed this in Lake George and think a monthly breakfast / lunch get together may be a good start. It'll put a couple hundred miles on that car quick with the distances involved between Quincy and the Canadian border. Then again, you could start a Southern New England group.

Good luck

Tim

Feel free to clean up in my room. I have one for the weekend and I'd be glad to let anyone use it.

Default Don't forget

P and H for a feed on the way to or from and Waterbury is close with Ben and Jerry's tour and sample also. I've been watching the thread to try and gauge the attendance. I'm in Northern NH work is about 5 minutes south of the Franconia Notch and was considering a run up there Saturday afternoon. It is difficult finding an event to see Cobras up here in the Northeast. I saw there was a Shelby meet in CT a few weeks back. From what you guys are saying the Lake George event may be a better bet. There is also the British Car Invasion. Now if I can decide on a venue I want to be able to meet the owners and look at the cars and you guys understandably want to drive your cars..........Maybe I should stay home and work on mine instead what about posting a poll for attendance??

Hey Mickmate-

My attendance is weather dependent, but I would like to go for the day on Sat.

On a side note, I will be visiting Squam Lake up in your neck of the woods later this month/beginning of August- hope to have the car with me for one of the trips up there- maybe we could meet for a run?

Best-

-John

I just talked with Chris again after reading your post. Chris is very accommodating. He quoted me a rate for single room w/o breakfast would be $99 (about $40 off the current rate). He is going to go by the al-a-carte route regarding the activities at the Inne. When I read part of your post to him, he said that is incorrect. He tries to accommodate everyone.

Anyone can just show up locally and go on the "runs" - NO CHARGE

He is going to wing it for the weekend. He said anything that we as a group want to do, no problem.

He wants to sit down with a bunch of us and discuss what anyone would like for next years show.

I know how difficult it is to set up and organize a weekend of events, especially if its the "first annual" event. I was the car show chairman of my club's car show for the first 22 years. A thankless job. But he has been very successful with other events at the Inne.

I just hope that all you local guys (and gals) do not show up due to any mis-communications or misunderstandings.

Chris told me that anyone can call him (802-253-5320) and discuss anything regarding the event. This way he can also get a better handle on how many will be there.

Sounds like it will be a great time to me.

Jay, I loved your car. I haven't seen one like that in Vermont since 1967. Your car's look is what I was trying to replicate. It was good to meet you, your wife and Warren. It was too bad that there weren't many more cars there, but I guess that having this event the week after Lake George was not a very good idea and really hurt participation. We will be working with Chris Francis to come up with a better date that conflicts with nothing for next year. The British Invasion event that he runs in the fall draws over a hundred cars. I promised to attend that this year. I hope the run over the notch and around the lake was a good drive. In the 60's we used to watch a hill climb thru the notch from the Stowe Mountain Resort parking lot over to the Smugglers Notch Ski Area parking lot. More than one vehicle found those rocks not too inviting. Also thank you again for the steering wheel center emblem. Look forward to seeing you both at a future event in the northeast.

Chuck,
Thank you for the kind words, the drive trough the mountains and down trough the islands was terrific. The weather was perfect, the scenery was unbelievable. What a great time! I can't wait for next year. I met a lot of great people.

Default Thanks all

It didn't matter the turnout was limited the people and cars were super! What great countryside to play with the toys. It was excellent putting faces to names and cars, Jay thanks so much for sharing that treasure with us! I came home very inspired and have some excellent shots even though I didn't get the oil change done..........
I hope Warren reports in shortly or I'll think his seat fell out on the way home!
Cheers lads
