According to the Thursday, June 16th, 2005 edition of the Connecticut Post, Alan Lubinsky, president of AC Cars Manufacturing (USA) is looking at five sites for possible locations for a manufacturing facility.
Lubinsky is looking at five properties in the Bridgeport, CT area and Jim Watson, a spokesperson for the CT Department of Economic and Community Development confirmed that discussions with the company were in progress. The firm needs about 50,000 square feet with high bays.
Sites, being considered are the former Armstong Manufacturing factory which built the first "horseless carriages in the USA". Another site is the former factory of the Locomobile Co. of America which manufactured hand built, high end cars and went out of business in 1929.
One of the key obsticles may be the need for the state to excuse liability for past contamination (at some of the factory sites) if the new owners (AC) were to purchase the building(s). Past uses have rendered these facilities as "dormant" due to the details of the environmental laws and their environmental impact.
AC is said to be a "boutique-style" auto manufacturer and will build their MKVI with a price tag of $125,000, the Mamba, a coupe verion of the ACE at $80,000 and the ACE which is a soft-top entry level car selling for $60,000.
