Any problems registering a Cobra in Ct.
I know that getting a Cobra inspected in Ct. is not a pleasant task. But after it is inspected, is there any problem I should know about when it comes to registering it. What is the process? What paperwork do I need?

Registration
Just make sure you bring every piece of paperwork you have on the car with you. Your insurance card if faxed to you MUST not be cut out and put in a plastic holder. It must be on the whole page faxed to you.
At DMV the registration people do not seem to connec t with the inspection people.
Had problems with girls at desk wanting documentation of engine etc which was given to inspection in order to get my CT vin number WHICH inspectors put on car.
Basically DMV is retarded!!!! So just work on that assumption.
And of course by the time you get done with inspection your whole day will be shot and there won't be enough time to get a number for registration cause by then they will be 200 numbers out and 3 hour wait.

Hi Bob
And yes your right, i'm an optomist.
Figured if i told my complete story about DMV he might change his mind.
It took me 2 tries at inspection, with only minor things that i could have resolved in about 30 minutes with a trip to NAPA-
reflectors for the sides and a loose wiper blade. But they would not allow that.
Maybe we can start a drive to privatize DMV

As a starting point, obtain a copy from the DMV of publication R-157, Composite Motor Vehicles. Approach the regulations that there needs to be 100% compliance. Also, heat shields on the side pipes are mandatory along with notarized Bills of Sale for the Cobra and all major compoents.
Composites. i.e., kit cars, need to be trailered to Wethersfield, no temp or dealer plates.

inspection
You will need side exhaust heat protection devices. You can probably borrow some for the day. Also make sure that which ever rude. abusive, incompetent person you get at the dmv gets the classification correct as composite or you will never make throught emissions.

Just my $0.02 worth
Good luck
I can tell you that its a lot harder over here.
Will you need to have the identification numbers and registration numbers of the donour vehicles for the engine and the gearbox.
These may need to be obtained from the place of purchase of your engine and gearbox.
I maybe off line here, but have heard this was required in Ohio for registration.
Make sure engine, gearbox numbers are clean easily read - you are dealing with lazy trained monkeys here..

I just regestered my Cobra in Ct. today and they gave me a choice of early American plates or standard.

My car is a brand new Backdraft Cobra. My Dealer (Vintage -Motorsports) got it inspected for me. Because of their atention to detail, the car passed inspection the first time. It took me an hour to regester, no problems. I don't need to do emissions until 2007.

Inspection
Brain at Vintage has alot of experience at the CT. DMV.
If anyone can get a car passed the first time it is Brian. He is very through in completing his cars.
