New guy says "HI"
Hi everyone, been lurking for a while on this site. I live in Berlin, Ct. and am looking to buy my first Cobra. Have done the muscle car and streetrod thing, but have always wanted to own a Cobra. I am currently "carless" but still have the Harley, which is completely useless with the stretch of weather we have been having here lately! Can you guys give me a heads up about the Ct. DMV? Are they really being tough on composites, or is it being blown out of proportion by some of the people I have talked to? I am leaning towards trying to find a car that is already registered so I can avoid the inspection hassle, but that is limiting my ability to find what I am looking for. I was also wondering if anybody has any suggestions for a good agent or company that you have used to insure your Cobra? Thanks, Rich

Rich, I have three Cobras--1 finished w/428 and twin 4's, 1 about 75% finished w/406 and single 4, and 1 rolling chassis with body mounted along with a 428 long block and a T-5 transmission. All for sale. The finished car is titled in Florida as a 1966 Cobra. Call or email if you're interested in any of these. Tony at 407-509-4000 cell or 407-348-9191 home or 407-850-2070 office.

Rich,
We are in your neighborhood. Stop in, we would be happy to discuss with you all the issues surrounding registration in CT (the process) as well as show you our cars. And finally I have a very good insurance guy that is right in CT too.
We are near the Aetna building if that helps, and our PO Box is in East Berlin.

Rich go see jay. he know's as much as anyone about registration. buying a used cobra could be more of a problem than a new one. you need all the paperwork for engine, tranny, and rear end to prove it does not have any stolen parts. I'm right in middletown if you want a ride. Insurance is fairly cheap. I pay around 230.oo a year for 3000 miles.

Thanks for the replies. Jay, I have a pretty good idea where your shop is and will definitely stop in to see you, would like to check out a BD car. Have checked out your website and it looks good. Do you feel that the new emissions standards for '07 are going to present any problems for composites? I would think a car that is tuned right would be able to go through without any problem. (But what do I know.. ) I have to get through one more week of craziness at work and things will calm down, (we have the usual end of the fiscal year lunacy) then I am taking off for a week but I will stop in after that and pick your brain. Thanks again guys. Rich

Rich:
Some owners have little trouble getting their snake registered, others go through hell. For the wife and I it was the latter. The guys in Weathersfield are in total control and they know it. Catch them on a bad day and you're going home on the flatbed. Catch them on a good day and you're on top of the world.
Good luck!

The January 2007 law presents mild issues. It just adds another step in the process, but I don't think a new, properly tuned, small block will present any trouble. We also have a "cat" pipe in the works
Stop in, best way to talk everything over. The inspectors are doing a difficult job in a really crummy environment so it would get to anyone I'm sure ... the key is to present nothing that makes their job tougher
