Default Cobras at Napolie in Milford, CT ???

While driving through Milford the other day I stopped in at Napoli Motors (an indoor used car store). They had 2 Backdraft Cobras. I asked if they were on consignment, they said no. They told me they came in from Africa ready to go with engines, drivetrains, the works. They also told me they already had VINs (CT stick ons) from the state of Connecticut. All I have to do is bring in the money and drive away.

So my question is this - what's going on? Are these guys paying off the crooks in Hartford or what? I've never heard of such a thing. Since when do the cars come into the good ol' USA with the engines is them? How did these guys get VINs without registering the cars? How did they get the VINs without going to Wethersfield? How did they bypass the pain of flatbedding and inspection? I thought even a used "composite" had to go through Weathersfield after each sale. What's going on?

In case you're wondering the cars were stickered at $60,000.

I would be curious to see what the Vins were. Would also like to see the paperwork on the inspection. Hard to think that anybody could get the inside track on getting something through registation/inspection in this state.

The car's in question where built by Vintage in Middletown a BDR Dealer and sold to Napoli. Go see Brian and buy one for alot less!! See Post's under Cashburn. They put the motor's in and did all the work of going to DMV.

It's a legit operation. They are selling them as "used" cars. In state sales do not require the reinspection, it is only on cars brought in from other states during the VIN verification process.

All their cobras have gone through the full state inspections in Wethersfield (I was there for 2 of them) and properly comply.

They can offer things I cannot, including a car you can literally drive off in. Also can do financing and trade-ins. There is a premium on that service and some people would rather pay it and be on their way. And for out of state buyers they can avoid their state inspections all-together.

Should be 2 Roush cars (blue) and maybe a Red one left? Have not had the chance to check in lately.

I was very specific on the new/used issue. I was told they were new. Can I assume that if I were to sell my SPF to someone in Connecticut they would not have to go to Wethersfield?

You believe everything a car salesman tells you? Actually, that has been the biggest hurdle for them selling the cars ... knowledge about the product.

On your SPF sale, I have every reason to believe that you are correct.

Bob, can there be a play on words here using the term new or used with " never registered " I would guess that anyone could complete the Inspection process , obtain the CT VIN but never go to the last step of actually registering. If these were actually registered, then the Sales Tax would have to be paid to obtain the plates. But then why call the vehicle used if it was never registered ?

Recall earlier the 2nd opinion I obtained from the Inspection staff, a Composite with a CT VIN does not need to be re-inspected to be registered in CT.

On an in state sale only the CT VIN is needed, not the registration number, correct or ? Wonder what the CT Title reads ? If the vehicle was registered, then the vehicle would also be on the Town's property tax records

When title passed from the original source to the dealer as a Composite, might be what created the used designation ?
