Angry White Substance (paint?) on CT Roads!

For months now I have been noticing white paint or who knows what dumped all over many primary and secondary roads in Connecticut. Yesterday I drove from Bridgeport to Mystic via I95 and noticed white something almost the whole way. It some areas it is many feet wide and in stripes. In other areas it's just everywhere. Am I the only one noticing this crap on the roads?

Back in the 70s I spoke with a trucker who told me a favorite way to get rid of liquid that could not be dumped was to simply drive down the interstate with the pipe opened and dump it on the road. If you get stopped you claim ignorance and drive away, if not you got rid of the hazmat.

Keep your eyes open next time you're out.

Bob

When I saw it I thought it was a way to put down a solution that would help with ice formation without being blown off the roadway like salt crystals. Might not just be brine, but that is cheap. I don't know how it holds up in rain. I always saw it in freeze prone areas.

An article in the Courant this week mentioned that they would no longer dump loads of sand on the roads anymore due to polution problems. Instead it would be a salt mixture. Being on the road alot i have noticed this dust all over my car daily.

It's calcium chloride solution and it's sprayed to the pavement.

There hasn't been a sub freezing day yet this season. I've had my Cobra out every week since October. I'm sure they're not putting this stuff down in advance.

Welcome to New England! It is probably in their union contract snow, freeze, or not........

I have heard crazier things in the past with the DPW.

The current weather pattern might impact next year's budget, which is based upon this year's actual, so..........need to use the resource to receive funding for the 2007/2008 season.
