First Drive in 8 Weeks!
Back on January 7th it was 60 degrees here in Southern Connecticut. It seemed like winter would never get here. The next day it did, and it hung around until yesterday.
Anticipating a sunny day with warm temperatures (50) and clean roads (following 4 inches of rain two days ago) I got the ol' snake ready. I replaced the 40 watt bulb I've had burning under the crankcase for last 8 weeks with a 75 watt guy. This brought the 5W-30 Mobil1 to well above ambient (who wants to start up after 8 weeks on cold oil?). I got out the hair-drier and warmed-up the oil cooler, oil lines and engine compartment. I checked all the fluids, inflated the tires, and rolled SPF642 out of the garage. It seemed happy to be in the sun. I let the engine crank for about 5 seconds or so, to let some of the now warm oil move around a little. I then depressed the accelerator and closed the choke. On the next couple of turns the engine started right up. My oil pressure came up to 60 PSI immediately! The engine was idling at about 900 RPM and all was well with the world. After letting the engine come up to temperature I went for a March ride with my favorite car. It had been a long time.
So my question is this, am I the only guy that does this sort of thing?
