New England Cannonball Cruise, June 23rd.
On Saturday June 23 we will be cruising through all 6 New England states between sunup and sundown.
The sole purpose for doing this is to be able to say you did. There will be a stop in each state to feed ourselves and our Cobras.
I will maintaine this thread and a mirror of it on the FFforum site. So check in here for updates comments and to tell me you're coming!
Hope to have some of you join me.
Tentative route and schedule:
7:00 to 8:00am meet at the parking lot of Thompson speedway in Thompson, CT
8:00 drive smaller roads to Harrisville, RI
8:30 to 9:30 Breakfast at a diner.
9:30 drive through (under)Boston, across the Zakim Bridge heading for Maine. This leg will be mostly highway.
11:15 to 11:30 A quick pit stop somewhere north of Boston.
11:30 Continue on to Maine. Current plans take us along part of the coastal roads in NH and through the town of Portsmouth. This will be a mix of highway and smaller roads.
1:00 to 2:30 Lunch in Southern Maine. (The location to be determined)
2:30 Drive west heading for Vermont on a mix of highway and major secondary roads.
4:30 Stop at “Diamond acres” in Hillsboro, NH for a gas and go. These folks advertise 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream. A high point of the trip to be sure.
5:00 Back on the road for the last leg to Fuzzy’s Seafood Restaurant in West Brattleboro, VT. There is a cruise night at this place Saturday nights. I’m sure we’ll give them something to talk about the rest of the summer.
Q & A
Q: How much to enter??
A: Entry is FREE. You will need money for food and gas.
Q: Cobras only, or can anyone tag along?
A: Cobras, Daytona coupes, GTM’s and any other kit car of any make are welcome. No one will be turned away but the mini-vans will have to take up the rear.
Q: How far between gas stations?
A: Less than 100 miles.
Q: Will there be a rain date?
A: Yes, the following day. If the entire weekend is a washout then we’ll try again next year.
Q: Can I join in mid-way?
A: Yes, but those of us making the whole circuit may not speak to you. (Just kidding) Join us for one or two legs if that’s all your schedule allows. Meet us at the pit stop closest to your house for moral support if you want. Watch for postings with exact locations and times.
Q: What about hotels the night before or after?
A: I will post info on cheap motels at either end. Personally I will be doing this Friday night. Saturday evening I will head for home as I live about 45 minutes east of Brattleboro.
Q: Just how far will we be driving?
A: The current route maps out at 283 miles. You will also have the drive to and from your home.
Q: Why?
A: If you actually asked yourself this question then this event is not for you.

Great to have you on board Gary.
Watch this thread for more info as we get closer.
I will post details on exact stops and suggested Motels in a couple of weeks.
When we get close to the date I will send PM's to those interested in order to exchange cell phone numbers.

Gary this is the first time for this event.
My guess is there will be 5 to 10 cars at the start. We will pick up more cars as we go. Perhaps another 5-10 in Mass. Then we will start to loose cars in Maine & NH. I predict not more than 5 drivers will will have the iron buns needed to make all 6 states.
Will there be another one next year? Too soon to tell. This could be a one time event so if you miss it, you miss it.
I orginized the event to give those of us who own our cars to drive them a "trophy" to brag about.
the 1/4 mile guys have an ET slip.
The show queens have that 4 foot tall "best of show" trophy.
The horsepower junkies have there dyno slips
The track and autocross guys have there best lap times.
Now the daily driver guys have an event. When someone comments "nice car, bet you don't drive it much" You'll have a story that should satisfy the critics.
I hope you can join us for all or some of the trip.

Funny? Actually she may be looking forward to it as well. Anything to get away from the kiddies for a while.

Cannonball Run
I found your Web by chance and want to know more (also am trying to adjust to your website).
I am interested in the Cannonball Run. My Wedding anniversary is the 23rd so thought my wife would like this. Still not sure if I will be able to make the Run but will try. If I do make the Run it will be somewhere in Maine or NH. I have your schedule and will keep tabs on any other messages.

Gary, a quick update:
I have scouted the route and have the exact stops all planned.
The one disapointment is the ending in VT. I had hoped to end with a cruise night but my early info on that was not correct.
As of now we will end at a steakhouse in Bratleboro.
I will post the final route and schedule by the the 3rd of June.

Final route and schedule:
7:15 to 7:45am meet at the parking lot of Thompson speedway in Thompson, CT
7:50 drive smaller roads to Harrisville, RI
8:30 to 9:30 Breakfast at the “Old Victory Sq Diner” 401-765-2661
From Rt 102 turn south at the light where Rt 7 crosses. There is an old gray/blue water tower within site of this crossroads. Once on Rt 7 turn left 100 yards later. The diner is less than a ½ mile down this road on the left.
9:30 drive through (under)Boston, across the Zakim Bridge heading for Maine. This leg will be mostly highway. (80 miles to the next stop.)
11:15 to 11:30 A quick pit stop at exit 42 on Rt 128/ 95. (Wakefield area)
There is a Sunoco station with clean rest rooms and a mini-mart.
Coming from either direction get of at Exit 42. At the bottom of the ramp turn left.
Heading north it’s about ½ mile up on the left. Heading south, you can’t miss it.
11:30 Continue on to Maine. We will stay on Interstate 95 until we reach Portsmouth NH. We will cross into Maine over the Rt 1 bridge. Once in Kittery we will take Rt 103 up to York.
1:00 to 2:30 Lunch at “Maude Hutchins” 290 E. York St, York ME. (207)363-6192 If the group gets big they have a sister restaurant next door that does clam bakes for parties of 30 plus. Gas will be on the way out of town.
2:30 Drive west heading for Vermont. (85 miles to next stop) We will take Rt 95 back down to Portsmouth where we will pick up Rt 4 west. (Highways thru Concord then Rt 89, Rt 202, Rt 9.)
4:30 to 5:00 A gas & go at “Diamond Acres” on Rt 9 in Hillsboro, NH. These folks advertise 24 flavors of soft serve ice cream. A high point of the trip to be sure.
5:00 Back on the road for the last leg to Brattleboro, VT. Rt 9 will take us right into Brattleboro.
6:00 End of the road dinner at “The Steak Out Restaurant” 1212 Putney Rd., Brattleboro VT
Bring your wallet. Entrees are between $20 and $30 but do include appetizers and desserts.
If you are planning to join us please PM me with your cell phone. I will reply with mine for any last minute changes or updates. This will give me some idea of how many to expect. I will check messages at each stop but will not call you just because you said you were planning to be somewhere and we don’t see you.
I hope you can join us.
Q: How far between gas stations?
A: Less than 100 miles.
Q: Will there be a rain date?
A: Yes, the following day. If the entire weekend is a washout then we’ll try again next year.
Q: When will the decision be made about rain delays and/or cancellation?
A: Friday morning. Watch this thread for updates. We WILL go even if the weather is not perfect. We will not go if they are predicting rain all day for the entire route.
Q: Can I join in mid-way?
A: Yes. Be at any one of the stops listed here. We will not leave a stop before the time shown here. For example I know a few cars will be joining us at the Mass. stop along Rt 128. We will not leave that stop before 11:30. If you are there and we haven’t shown up then we must be running late. If you show up at 11:40 and there are no Cobras there, ask the clerk if we’ve been by. You may have missed us OR we could be running late.
Q: What about hotels the night before or after?
A: At the starting point the best deal I found was the Country Hearth Inn at 5 Heritage Rd. Putnam, CT. Phone 860-928-7961 I have a room reserved for Friday night here. There is no group rate or anything like that. Just a reasonably priced place that happens to have a bar in case anyone is thirsty Friday night.
In Brattleboro you are on your own. There are many spots to choose from.

Great job with the design and plan,
Kudos!
I plan to show up at the 128/95 stop. It will be easier for me since we, my wife and I, have to make babysitter arrangements etc....
May the gods of the sun shine bright on 6-23-07.......

How long is the overall trip. Cause I'm coming from Southern CT so I'd have to double back again which could doulble the overal distance. We may have to ver off 1/2 way into the ride. Just trying to see where would be a good place to do that or Maybe even ver off and go down to Cape Cod.
