VINTAGE RACING
New England’s newest legends
The New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame will enshrine a group of distinguished racers and builders on January 25, 2009
Racing, the kind that occurs on tracks, doesn’t happen much during New England winters. There is a annual off-season fete, however, that salutes the region’s very best in motorsport. The New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame will enshrine its latest inductees on January 25, 2009, joining the 102 luminaries already so honored.
The NEAR Class of 2009 numbers eight: The fabled Vermont stock car champion Bobby Dragon, four-decade supermodified winner Paul Richardson, chassis genius Rollie Lindblad, New Hampshire Motor Speedway builder and all-around old car guy Bob Bahre, winning modified owner Art Barry, the ageless John Fitch and Maine racing pioneer Jim McConnell, whose involvement in the sport surpasses 60 years.
This is a huge event, especially if you’re a New England native or transplant. NEAR’s induction is sited at the LaRenaissance Banquet Hall in East Windsor, Connecticut, north of Hartford. Tickets are set to go on sale November 1 on the NEAR Web site.
