Fall Foliage Cruise White Mountains
Hi Everyone,
I know that it is a little early to be thinking about Fall but we have had a fantastic weekend here in Bethleham, NH. After spending the first night and cruising around Saturday, we decided that we wanted to come back up in the Fall to enjoy the foliage season. The B&B that we are staying at is very quiet and extremely comfortable. I'm not a late sleeper but the beds are so cozy its easy to get a great nights sleep.
We thought that some of you might also enjoy the area and cruise some of the country roads thru the mountains to view the foliage so wanted to put the idea out early. The B&B only has nine rooms so if anyone is interested, we should organize things early while we can book as a group. The website for the B&B is below to give you an idea of the B&B, the views, and the area:
http://www.bearmountainlodge.net/
Let us know if there is interest in a weekend cruise or even if a day cruise would be of interest after the October breakfast as we have spoken with the owner and he has suggested a number of routes to take.

Hi Jay,
That would be great. The B&B is very Cobra friendly as it sits off of the main road and is very private. No chance that a casual passerby is going to damage anything during the night. If we have a large enough group, I'll ask the owner for recommendation of a restaurant that might set aside a part of the parking so that we could park the cars as a group.
Hi Lurk,
The owner is an ex-Marine and his wife deals mostly with law firms and law enforcement so it might be best to enjoy the scenery. They do put out a mean breakfast though if you want something hot.

Is anyone planning to do the Cobras in the Mountains in Stowe Vermont this year? I did it a few years ago and had a good time. I think this year if the date works I may attend.

Hi Jay,
I've missed Cobra in the Mountains the last couple of times but was thinking of making it this year if the dates work.

Hi Everyone,
Since there appears to be interest in putting this together, the likely dates would be the weekend of September 26/27 and October 3/4. We had planned on Columbus Day weekend originally but the B&B has a three day requirement for that weekend. Also, the owner indicated that even though the Columbus Day weekend is considered peak for much of NH, the mountains are usually peak a week or two prior to that, hence the dates above.
Let us know how these will work for each of you who are interested and we can begin to plan from there.

Keep this thread going too- while I can't go in on a multi-day thing, I will probably be close enough to join in for day of spirited driving.

The one event to look out for conflict with around that time is the Columbus Circle run into NYC but it probably works out since the B&B wants a 3 day for that.
What are the temps around that date? It gets tougher to pull groups down here when we get under 50 degrees.

Sounds good to me, unless the Bentley bash is on the same weekend! Here is my most favorite pic of the 2005 Cobras in the Mountain gathering .....
Of course, I also have pictures of Mickmate crawling all over your car too.

Hi Jay,
It is always a little hard to pin a temp that time of year. I would guess that it could be as low as the mid-forties at night but should be in the mid-50s to mid-60s at least during the day. The later into October, obviously, the cooler the temps would be.
Hi Lurk,
We can certainly let you know what the schedule would be so that you could join us. Also, I see in your gallery that you attended Racing Adventures at Summit Point as well. Donna and I had a great time when we were there.
To Everyone:
We are working with Mike at the Bear Mountain Lodge to work out a list of restaurants that might be able to accomodate whatever size group we end up with. I would like to work with the restaurants to see if they would be willing to set aside a section of their parking lot that we would be able to park the cars in so that there would be some buffer from patrons who would want to check out the cars and other parking in the lot. That way there would be some safety for the cars. Once I have a list and have spoken with the owners/managers, I'll post the list and websites so we can plan the cruise around them.

Last year the Stowe event did not happen. The Green Mountain Cobras had an alternative run on that weekend with a route that took us up 100 and then over to Jay Peak and back down to Montpelier. It rained that afternoon and cut the run short. Columbus day weekend we had our fall foliage run and got 7 takers. We did about 150 miles including route 100 over to NY State, lunched at Ft. Ticonderoga and shot back over lake Champlain and the hump of the Green Mountains to Rt. 100 to end it with a few Shirley Temples. It was perfect foliage and weather. We will plan a similar Fall run again this year and will post the details here. We are a loosely organized group with people scattered around from Montreal to Springfield, VT. We have no dues or charter or anything much more complicated than a phone number and e-mail list but we get great turn out every month for our monthly runs. Everyone is welcome to any of our events if you are needing a little Yankee hospitality.
Tim

I would be interested in joining in on the route 100 run and/ or joining in a day of driving in the fall during this trip. We are planning a mid-summer route 100 run also. Day care issues make it easier for us to do day trips vs. overnighters. We were in Vt yesterday and talking about the same thing coincidentally.
