Mass registration is the worst
I can't believe I have to assemble the car and tow it to an inspection station so someone can poke at it to see if it meets there expectations. I have a Kirkham which probably has better quality control then most new cars. This is such a pain!

I would highly suggest you go in to the inspection calm kool and collective, I would also recomend you stop by prior. Talk to the inspecting officer and show him the paperwork you have and ask if it is everything they would require.
Remember be nice no matter how difficult they are and you will be rewarded, if not they will send you on your way, I speek from experience.

Does CT have the same inspection proces? I was told to bring a jack jack stanbds and tools to take the wheels off. Did other have to do this. They also said to bring pads to len on the car to look at the engine. I won't let anyone lean on the alum. It dents with elbows so I will leave before i let this guy dent my car

Hey ng in Oakham.......trailer it down to Bridgewater with ALL of your paperwork. A necessary evil, but when all is said and done, you'll look back and realize it could have been a lot worse. I went thru it last year. PM me if you want more specific info.

Registered my Backdraft in MA In 2007 with no problems. As others recommended make sure all paperwork is in order and meet with the inspector prior to the inspection. I have spoken to several members here that have gone through the same procedure with no problems. PM me your phone number if you would like some more help.

I had all sorts of problems here in Nebraska. Even though my cobra is from Lone Star Classics, has a Vin tag on the firewall and is recognized by the Government as a manufacture like GM ect. my state would not give me a title unless I had one for the engine, body or frame.
I had the Sheriff inspect the car, had proof of insurance ect. I even asked the head of the DMV about this and he said at this time (2002) nothing can be done. I told him there is a way around this, he replied, Kevin, do what you have to do ! (he's also a Hot Rodder). I looked at a Hod Rod Magazine and found a salvage yard near NY. Called him and he had a 1966 Ford Convertible title. He asked me how much I wanted the sale to be, I said $100 for the frame rails.
I drove the car to the county court house, handed them the paper work and had my plates and out the door in 15 minutes. I really tried to handle this like a good citizen but, as far as I see it, they screwed themselves for many, many years. Now they have a "Assembled Vehicle" and "Home Built".
Look at car magazines for business doing this for us. I had absolutely no problems with the salvage yard I went through. If your State is not willing to have these Kits & Replicas on their docket, it's their frickin problem but, to a certain extent, licencing a car in this manor, a lot of Nebraskans cheat out the State for road repair, which we all pay for in taxes. I don't feel bad because I tried for a month, to do this the honest way.
Look in magazines as I did, there are plenty business out there to solve this issue. I'm sure any of you can do the same as I did, no matter which State.
Lone Star was willing for me to sell mine back to them for $1.00, then I would buy it from them. All worked out great and my taxes are very,....low.

believe me, i know.
had to flatbed my SPF to the state trooper TWICE two years ago when going through my own hellish experience. for sure pays to go first with paperwork, vs. waste your time 1st time. and be prepared to kiss ass. yes sir, no sir. my trooper was a meat head who hated new yorkers, cool cars, the works. in the end, i got it titled (as a '65!), after all the long pain and suffering. and yes, MA sucks in many ways. borderline socialist state.
i do like relaxing there on the weekends, though.

It's just their way of verifying and controling the construction quality and anticipated safety of a "Component Vehicle". Would you like to have some guy in a home made dune buggy run into you and say his brakes weren't working. Sure it's a hassle, it's the price of admission. We've got the same thing here.

Just went through it
I just got licensed last week. I took a little different tack and got by with it.
In our state (South Carolina) you can drive a new car for 30 days while you buy your tags and pay the taxes. I insured the car, paid the taxes and drove it to the DMV for inspection.
The DMV, being bureaucrats, was more interested in the paperwork than anything else. About the only thing checked on the car was that the VIN plate was affixed as shown in the construction manual. The fact that it was a hot day and I parked it on the asphalt in full sun did help this process along.

Fun (not!) little tidbit about registering in CT. My car managed to get registered as a '65 (purchased used five years ago). Seems the CT DMV has figured out that a "1965 Cobra" is a very valuable car. My personal property tax bill has gone from about $25.00 years ago (prior to the 'awakening') to $455.00 a year now. My Town Hall tax department told me I should get Early American plates for it. With the car so registered I would see a very large drop in its assessed value but I fear I'll open a Pandora Box with the DMV in doing so. Any suggestions? The car has Veteran plates on it now (police are usually very friendly to Veterans) which I would like to keep but my tax bill is getting a little nuts.

Its not that bad,its only tough the first time around being its all new to understand each States laws.Was your appointment with the State Police in Framingham/Natick? There not so much concerned about the quality of your build but are more so where did all the parts come from and proof of Origin such as your Tranny /Block/Rear-end....2 big things are the Serial # on your block and also your Transmission, thats what there looking for in a nut shell, and thats the reason why they treat Replicars/Street rods/Custom bikes in the same Category as a Salvaged title inspection(Mass i believe only does these inspections on Mondays)That could of changed since i was there.

CT Senate Bill 1081 ( annual DMV Bill for a number of updates/changes ) , now Public Act 09-187, has been passed by the General Assembly and sent to the Secretary of State, then to the Governor for approval/signing with effective date of Oct 1st;
Included is :
COMPOSITE MOTOR VEHICLES
The bill requires, for purposes of registration and mandatory mechanical inspections required by law, that the model year of a composite motor vehicle be determined as the model year that the body of the vehicle most closely resembles. The law defines a “composite motor vehicle” as one composed or assembled from several parts of other motor vehicles, or the identification and body contours of which are so altered that the vehicle no longer bears the characteristics of any specific make of motor vehicle. Any vehicle not assembled by a DMV-licensed manufacturer is considered a composite motor vehicle.
Not aware of any mention that the make name will change, appears that it will remain Composite, only the year designation will change. However, does not appear the DMV has published any regulations regarding the above.
Might your experience be a clerical error or the way the forms were filled out ? Did you have the Composite inspection at Wethersfield or the used car inspection at the local DMV office ?
