Considering 'they' have been using radar-enabled stationary cameras to provide us with speeding tickets for years, this sort of assault should not be surprising. It was both predictable and most likely inevitable.

The good news, if there is any, is unlike radar-enabled cameras that are placed in suspected speeding locations, it is difficult, if not impossible, to characterize high probable, high noise locations.

This presents a deployment problem for those who would want to cite us for excessive noise. Having said that, it is also worth remembering that our cars are more pleasant to drive on the highway when that exhaust exit, which is only around 24 inches from our ears, is quieter rather than louder — even when you wear earplugs.

It’s coming here to the U.K. Another stealth tax!

The artificially generated “pops and bangs” brigade have spoilt the joy of a naturally aspirated V8. Don’t think the Daytona is going to fair too well but it’s all about being sympathetic to the environment you’re driving in. In a Cobra you don’t have to drive it in a manner to impress and attract attention. The car speaks for itself.

For all types of noise enforcement it is provable that without a properly calibrated sound pressure meter and the measurement taken at the specified distance that any sound violation is a matter of personal judgement - just like a cop saying you were speeding without radar proof. There are by far more noise complaints about loud music and parties than cars. The most they do is knock on the door and ask them to settle it down. That is not to say that technology hasn't created the equivalent of a self-calibrating device, but I've not heard of any such.

(I went through this when I was on the town board in Colorado when people were wanting noise ordinances and the sheriff outlined the issues with enforcement. We didn't make such an ordinance.)

So just a thought, Shelby AC Ford Cobras were sold thru Ford dealers back in the day and were certified 50 state legal at the time in SC form with sidepipes ! So seeing that in almost all instances you cannot a make a law or regulation retroactive and Federal certification overrules state or local ordinances !!! So tell NY to eat it!!!

I believe that can only be applied to original Cobras. Just like evolving clean air standards require suitable technology on current manufacture vehicles but not upgrades on earlier manufacture vehicles, I believe you will find the noise abatement enforcers will do the same with earlier vs later build Cobras
