Original 289 Cobra's Sold
As with just about any car auction, the words "Shelby" and "Cobra" always translate to lots of money. This was the case at Barrett-Jackson this year, with two of the top cars bearing the Cobra moniker. The first, CSX2091, is a clean 1963 289 Cobra with a fully rebuilt motor generating 417 horsepower. The second is chassis CSX2281, a clean Wimbledon White 1964 289 Cobra that's been through various upgrades, restorations, and rebuilds over the years, but is currently in prime condition.
Bidding for both cars quickly shot into the six figures, with each car finally topping the $400,000 mark. The white Cobra reached $478,500 and the black Cobra took $401,500 after auction fees. Those figures would have been the top selling cars for the auction except for a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette that inexplicably sold for $550,000. Hit the jump for more details on the two Cobras. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/24/b...s-are-among-t/ Link with pictures above |
Saw that last night....... amazing!

The Cobras brought good money, but not what they brought a couple of years ago. Many other muscle cars brought big money, several over 200k. It seems the well healed collectors were spending the big bucks again after the last two dry years. I can't remember more 100k cars crossing the block since I've started watching Barrett/J, but the Cobras are still relatively good bargains.

No kidding....cars have been a deal for a while. If my 401K hadn't taken a dump and i had some place to keep them, and my wife wouldn't divorce me, I would buy about 10 and sit on them a while.....I'd probably have to sleep in them too!

These 289s were in the hunt with the one that was in Vegas in October - CSX2568 went for $400K + 10%
