Precision Wheels in Sacramento
Beware of Precision Wheels in Sacramento on Albatross St. Cobra guys................
I had a cosmetically damaged edge on a BBS wheel on my Z3 BMW. I would have just bought another wheel if they were not genuine BBS’s. I took the wheel with me and asked if the wheel could be repaired to a “factory Look”. The response was “No Problem”. I told them that I was very particular and would buy another factory wheel if they could not repair it to an original finish which would perfectly match the other three wheels. Again, They said they could do it as they make this kind of repair every day.
A week later I picked up the wheel and immediately noticed it was severely grooved all the way around it. I was told that that’s the way they machine it. “This is not the factory finish”……or even close! They said that’s the best they could do unless I wanted to either spend more money for a redo, or pay to have the other three done like this one.
Reminding them they said it would be a factory finish for $275…NOT MORE MONEY didn’t seem to make a difference. They refused to even talk about it without me committing to pay AGAIN!!!
Please be careful in dealing with this business as there is no guarantee and it is my fault for trusting the business in the first place. Attached are photos of both rear wheels. Click on the photo to see the grooves. The wheel looks much worse in person than the photo.
Beware!

They obviously failed to use fine enough sandpaper when spinning it after the major repair. Maybe the guy was BLIND? Was it this way all around?

Yep, it was all the way around.
They polished the Cobra wheels last year and did a good job. The best way to describe our conversation is like trying to talk to my ex wife. One BS excuse after another, and him telling me it looks just like the other wheels..yes, blind or stupid or both!

Did you get a quote from them in writing stating exactly what was expected by you?
I agree that they should not have told you that they could do this if thay could not.
Being in the metal industry for the last 35+ years, I can tell you that if they did not have another wheel from your car to match it to, it would be very hard to match it to them.
That being said, It is their resposibilty to do this job correctly and should have asked for another wheel as a sample to match it to. I guess they could have taken hi resolution pictures of the wheel, or you could have.
(This is a bit different but the same caution should be taken when you have any work done anywhere.)
When I took all of my parts for my CR to be painted I had (2) hi resolution pictures of every part. One for them to keep and the other I had them sign and kept myself. This was mostly to ensure that I received all of the parts back but it was also for them to keep track of all of the parts that were mine.
I would say take them to small claims court (if you have the written quote stating that they are doing exactly what you require). On the other hand, writing this on this forum is going to cost them more than that $275.
The other thing that we as readers of this issue need to keep in mind is that we are only hearing one side of this.
Hope that you get this resolved and end up with a matching pair of rims in the end.

Terri, this is not my first rodeo. If it was about the money I would take them to small claims, however, there is only a judgment in 90% of those cases with no follow through by the courts afterwards. Besides, I retired from 24 years at Salinas PD four years ago and have had enough court room time.
$275 is not the end of the world and making others aware is more important to me. I could *****, whine and threaten but before I’ll do that I will go out of my way to protect myself and others from getting ripped off.
As far as the photos, I drove the car there so they saw the other wheels. And, as far as that goes, it’s not that they didn’t eventually roll over and admit that it didn’t match, it’s when they said they could NOW redo it but FOR MORE MONEY AND MAKE IT MATCH! That’s when the sh&% slinging started.
If the photos don’t tell the story…..nothing will….But that’s just my side of the story.

Tom,
Ok, Thanks for letting us know to be aware of dealings with them. That way we can make an informed decision.

The average person that has a very good experience at a retail/service establishment will maybe tell 1 other person. The same person has a bad experience and will tell 10 others... or in modern times post it on the internet informing thousands!
It's a vivid demonstration of how important customer service is these days.
Again thanks for the heads up.

Precision did a nice job fixing a pinhole in one of my rear Trigos - did it properly, drilling out the flaw and welding it up. Only complaint was that he had not remounted the tire when I showed up, under time pressure, to pick it up and I had to wait for the mount and balance. Since mine isn't a cosmetic repair (fix is on the inside flat) it may not be the same as Tom's issue, but I was satisfied.
