Thanks Tom.
To expand on this event a bit more.......
This is the 18th year of Snakes to the Lake and what we have found over the years is that herding folks around all weekend in a large caravan is a challenge ( we generally have 40-50+ cars for Snakes).
Even with maps people seem to get lost and too much structure increases stress and lessens fun, so we provide options.
Our schedule is somethings like:
Friday-
Caravan to Lake Tahoe
Reception at hotel around 5:00 or so
Sat.-
Have breakfast
Join a group doing one of the drives or create your own
Get together at hotel in the afternoon have cocktails
Go to dinner/show or whatever
Sunday-
Have breakfast
find out how others are going home
Say goodbyes
We have options which are posted and emailed out for everyone to review before we leave. This usually makes smaller 5,10 or 15 car groups. Depending on what you want to do you just join in with others.
On our way to Tahoe we start in the bay area and picking up folks along the way (we do have planned stops on the way to Tahoe). We try to stay off of major highways as much as possible and use back-roads which can provide driving fun.
On Friday evening upon arriving we have a reception at the hotel with food & drinks. As Tom mentioned, we have a number of day drive options mapped out for the area and folks get together with others interested in taking the same drive and arrange a departure for the next day.
In addition to the drives, we list local activities in the area people might be interested in.
For example, this year the Reno SCCA is running a SOLO event at Fernley and we are invited to participate. Squaw Valley has their annual Food and Wine Festival, Camel Races in Virginia City, Balloon Races in Reno
At the end of the day folks gather again to share their days experience. We provide lists of dining options and always suggest reservations be made for 6 or more so others in the group interested in the same restaurant can join in with others.
Hope this provides a glimpse of what Snakes is about.
Everyone is welcome
