NorCal Cobras Santa's Hat Run

RESCHEDULED to the following Saturday 12/21 - due to expected Rain this weekend.

Mary Borden 12-05-2002 08:38 PM

Would love to do a Santa Hat run and incorporate a toy drop in. I did some searches to try to find an organized event of toy drops but came up with no luck.

Last year we did a drive through the foothills on the back roads and then had lunch in Apple Hill.

Just an idea for this year: A nice drive out 49 to Plymouth and then out through the Sommerset/Mt. Aukum area, ending up in Placerville where I could try to arrange for the CHP to meet us and pick up donated toys for tots.

How does the weekend of Dec 14 or 15th sound?

Mary Borden 12-05-2002 09:15 PM

Another option is that the local country radio station is doing a toys for tots live broadcast and drop off at Sunrise Mall this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday......any interest?

Mary: Jan & I are in for the 14 th or 15 th.

Let's give kids to rich gifts!!!!!!

Hey Bob and Jan, long time no see.....Let's do this thing. And while we are at it we could build a cabin and eat pie or maybe just have lunch somewhere!!!! Matt and Joan

We are planning this run for Saturday, 12/14. Please get the word out and have folks contact me at msborden@att.net so we will know how many will attend.

Mary,

I know that Sunrise Mall is sports car "Friendly" !!
If you decide to stop off there, I will try and have a reserved, secure site for parking.
The radio stations will most likely give "Norcal Cobras" some good plugs too !!

BTW, while your at Sunrise Mall, stop into the Tinder Box Gift shop,
they got Cobras !! Reason ??...... Cause I'm the proprietor !! :)

BO DUTCH 12-06-2002 03:01 PM

Mary,

E-Mail me (address in profile) on your desicion, so I can set it up.

Wonder if Santa would like a ride in a Cobra !!!!

Maybe the TV stations would be interested too !!

I emailed the group today and the Sunrise mall drop was too short of notice for this weekend. Most can go on Saturday 12/14 and are up for a trip through the foothills. How does that sound?

Bo Dutch, maybe David and I will arrange a trip to the mall soon in the Cobra.

I am open to any ideas at this point :) Here is what we did last year - met in old town Folsom then cruised green valley road up to the foothills. Cut over to 50 at Placerville and up to the Apple Cafe for lunch. After lunch we hit the back roads through Apple Hill. It was real informal and had about 8 cars.

We live in the Shingle Springs area so a meeting spot for us is easy. Where is everyone else coming from? I know I already have 5 cars interested (Folsom, Sac, Carmicheal, Sutter's Creek).

The route is wide open. I know a nice cruise out 49 towards Plymouth is really nice and then through the wine country and back towards Placerville is an idea. Any other routes sound fun?

Mary Borden 12-07-2002 11:02 AM

also - last year we met at 10:00 AM and were finished about 2:00 PM.

Re:

Mary, Matt:

to get this going, I vote for the Plymouth/Apple Cafe run, and the idea of starting in Folsom seems like a good neutral point. I don't believe the destination is as important as the meet/drive/plan itself, and getting the word out quickly - so lets decide.

In absense of a plan so far, I'll give it a stab, and you two can fill in any other details, OK?

-09:30 Meet at Bella Bru in Folsom. (Blue Ravine/Bidwell ctr)?
-10:00 Depart Bella Bru to Plymouth (you provide route details)?
-Through Placerville to Apple Cafe for late breakfast/lunch?
-Depart Apple Cafe to Apple Hill route (you provide route details)?
-Return Route - you pick?

Something like this? I don't know. You can email me directly if you want at decooney@attbi.com. Lets get this pinned down so we can send it out to the troops quickly or we'll lose them. OK? Thanks.

Matt M FFR 1502 12-07-2002 01:23 PM

I'll take a shot, but where we end up depends on who we give the gifts to, eh?

Bella Bru at 10
Out Scott road to White Rock
Left to Latrobe
Latrobe Road to Lower Sacramento Road
Left to Plymouth
Out Plymouth on 49 to Placerville
to Apple Cafe for lunch
On to Camino, Take Carson Road back to
Placerville through Apple Hill
Meet whoever we are gifting,

Separate ways home

How's that? Matt

Re:

Hey Matt,

sounds good to me. Will you be setting up the toy drop?

Please confirm, so I can post to the troops in my group. Once we get it confirmed, we should have Mary make a new thread with the time/place/agenda.

THANKS!

Mary Borden 12-07-2002 07:16 PM

Duane, Matt and I just talked and firmed up a route:

Date: 12/14

Time: 9:30 AM

Meeting Spot: Bella Bru in Folsom corner of Blue Ravine and East Bidwell.

Route:
Depart Bella Bru at 10:00 am
Head out Blue Ravine to Green Valley Rd.
Green Valley to all the way up to Missouri Flat
Missouri flat to Pleasant Valley
Right on Pleasant Valley to Hwy 49
Hwy 49 out to Plymouth
Lunch in Plymouth at the local diner
Shenandoah Road to Mt Aukum Rd.
Left on Pleasant Valley Road to Poor Reds

I have to contact the local Sherriff and CHP on Monday for the toy drop. They are closed on weekends but I am sure I can arrange a cruiser to meet us. I am going to try to arrange it at Poor Reds.

Everyone would then be free to take their own route home.

Let us know what you think Duane. This is a route with good, smooth Cobra roads. After talking to Matt we decided to avoid Apple Hill because of the Christmas tree traffic. I does get real busy up there.

Sounds good to me. Thanks Mary. This'll be awesome. Some of the most beautiful country around. matt

Re:

Mary, Matt,

OK - sounds good as-is. Lets go with it... If its not too late, I'll be sending this to as many NorCal people as we can this week on my end. I will be asking everyone to bring a toy if possible.

Good Going. Thanks for taking the time to set it up for everyone.

Matt M FFR 1502 12-08-2002 04:24 PM
