No they closed Tioga Thursday night I think. It will open back up, but its got snowfall off and on this last week at 6500-7000 feet. Thats a bit early, we usually try to hit Mammoth once before they close it but it hasnt happened in a few years. I think most of the other passes would close if Tioga is closed.
Theres been a couple wild winters lately!

Thudmaster, everything else in the park is open....they dont close that except due to creative driving and big dumps of white stuff!!!!.... but they have to keep all else open due to permanent residents.

thats GOOD!!! I agree with you....I have NO desire to get my FFR out in the elements, its just not meant for heavy rain driving....coming home from the bash this spring I was SO glad I had taken my trailer up there!! These cars are scary on the freeway in the rain, with BIG trucks, big cars, everyone else is bigger than us, and they just dont see us or are aware. I need goggles with wipers on them......
My engine block is getting the once over this winter to clean it all up. I want to finish it off with a sealant so that water oxidizing stuff wont stick on to it. My winter project. It gets abused enough just on these mountain roads.

Actually cindrrr I think I hijacked that thread by mistake. My bad.
My winter project is to repaint my car. I'm pretty fortunate; I live about a mile froms Kens Auto Shop. (the cobra painter) I have nothing to do during the day so I run over there and get to help on some of the cars. You know stand there and talk to the workers while they put them together. I have a superformance so I didn't get to do anything on my car. I now know how the ffr goes together. I want to get mine done for the bash also.

Ken is the one I want to paint my car. He does incredible work! No biggie on the hijackings....I get to gabbing and it probably should go in a gab thread or something!!!
I am also trying to get up to Fernley before winter kicks in again, but its not looking too promising! its been snowing here up above too much for comfort! I have alot of goals/to-dos on my car, and hope to get at least half of them done this winter. probably wont tho!

I thought I heard from Duane that you were getting a Kirkham. I gather from your thread you decided to keep the FFR. Is that true or was it just a rumor after the bash?

Hi Vince
Logic and common sense tells me to keep what I have....however......ah I dont know, everytime I see a brushed aluminum Kirkham I just about change my mind.
well, another thing that scared me off was I started looking into the registration process on it. That was the main issue right there.
But damn I want one.

I know what your saying. I thought about getting a backdraft afterthe bash but after a week or two of sleepliness nights on what do do I decided to keep mine. Sometimes you just need to explore othert options to make you realize what you have.
For me it ended being the following:
1.I know what I have
2.I know the pros/cons of my car
3.My car is completely finished and finally dialed in
4.There will always be someone out there with a nicer Cobra
5.It will not cost me an arm and two legs to replace my running gear
6.Bottom line, I like my cobra. I get a little tired sometimes hearing "but its a FFR" However, FFR with a good small block run strong, precise, and a very viseral feel. I think alot of people that knock small block FFR have never driven one. They would be quite surprised I'm sure. I am also not suggesting a $30K FFR can compete with an $80K Kirkham.
But for me I rather take the extra $50K and have a Porsche 911 also. Hense the handle Vince911cobra.

Vince
SO true!!! I also like taking mine on the track, and I dont think a Kirkham would like or handle little pavement dings and gunk like the one I have. The one in my garage already has the scratches and stuff I can handle.....I want a car I can drive and abuse a little.
But man those kirkhams are sweet.........

why they close Tioga when it snows.......
this is looking at the grade coming up the East side from Lee Vining....its one of the main reasons (at least thats what I was told) as to why they close Tioga pass every winter. Keep in mind this is only a 2 lane road, and the drop off the right is pretty intense.
