Thank You Ray!
Thank you Ray, for sharing you personal 'piece of Cobra history' with us.
It was a pleasure to meet you & I enjoyed your company & conversation during breakfast. Again Ray, I apologize for not remembering!
Your car is beautiful, I'm green with envy, or is that just green envy?
I look foreward to seeing you & your car again!

Peoples jaws must drop when they see the motor in your car!!

I also apologize for hijacking the thread, although it seems like the answer has been given.
Jack, I too was petrified of the engine and its complexity. I did a lot of research and talked to people like Dennis Olthoff who knows the car and the engine, as well as the guys in the Atlanta SPF dealership. They made me feel extremely comfortable with it because it really is a normal reliable engine with some snazzy well engineered pieces on top of it. Keith Craft built the engine and all rotating parts, which made me feel much better. They all told me that it was more reliable than most because of the top end parts in it and if push came to shove, I could remove the fancy looking fuel injection and put a carb, standard valve covers, and a normal overflow back on it for little money and it would look and run like any other engine. Since I have bought it I have become much more comfortable with it all and have a mechanic that basically went over it with a fine toothed comb and said I stole the car for the price I paid. The guy that was selling it built this as his dream engine and only sold it because of need for cashflow for his business. Just proves that appearances can be deceiving.
James

I ended up using 'Glenn Green" which is a GM paint code. It's very close to the old orginial dark green w/ some metalic in it.

That's what I like about you Ray! Here you have an original, getting all this great use, stories, and enjoyment out of it throughout your life...knee broken switches and all. Maybe some of it will rub off on a few of these guys with replica trailer queens! Hahahahaha.
We missed you at WSCB '06, so bring that Green Machine back for '07, okay. Let the wife know we'll all be sure to have drinks before it gets too late this time around! DC

Hi Guys,
One of my neighbors has CSX3160 in the garage second owner with 19k miles on the odometer, I thought at first that this was Jeff's car but, appearantly there are two original green cars running around here in NorCal. CSX3160 has a Holman and Moody built 427 in it and lives in a spectacular collection that includes Ferraris , Morgans and other Shelby rides in a ten car garage, three houses down.
Great to see people taking them out and driving them.

I purchased the car in Los Angeles from the original owner. He was given the car for graduation and was selling it and use the money to go to graduate school. He was Japanese and when I arrive to pick up the car his mother, a very proper Jananese lady, answered the door and told me it was a Cobra evening. It was a cool evening and it didn't take to long driving the car to understand what she meant.
When I got the car I was about to graduate from college and needed new clothes. I saw the add for the car in the classifieds and decided to stop and take a look on the way to buy the clothes. The guy asked me if I wanted to drive it and of course I said yes. However, I had trouble getting behind the wheel so I settled for a ride. I forgot about the clothes and went back home and asked my dad to cosign a loan for the car. Of course he said no. I spent a week telling all about the car and how it would be worth more in the future. I was thinking $10,000. After a week of pleading he finally said OK. I called the fellow that had the car and he still had it and agreed to a $100 deposit to hold the car until I graduated and could get the loan. That was 2 months away. I hadn't told my dad that I wasn't able to get behind the wheel. I was sure I could figure that out later. When I went to pick up the car I found I could kind of step over the steering wheel and slip behind the wheel. I put the key on my key ring started the car and drove about 2 blocks and the car died. I thought oh no I just paid almost $5,000 dollars for a car and it doesn't run. What happened is that my knee hit the key chain and turned off the ignition. So I always run the car with a bare key.
The original owner told me that he had lot's of calls on the car but only two people came to look at the car. I was the first and another fellow showed up the day after I gave him the $100 deposit. The second person offered cash on the spot but the owner told him the car was already sold.
The cobra was my second car. I still have the first one as well. It's a 52 Chevy hot rod I purchased in 1962 with paper route savings.

Hi Guys,
I know that the car my neighbor has is an original. the mistake is in my 60 year old brain.....I will verify the VIN and let you all know the correct CSX number.
Just picked this up been on vacation and had a family emergency on the East Coast.
Sorry for the error,
Tony R.

Tony, The car you are thinking of has the exhaust coming out from underneath the car and exiting ahead of the rear tires.

The original Shelby CSX-3225 belongs to Ray Shepherd of Penn Valley Ca. The color is called "Tropic Green Firemist"
