Question Sb100 01/02/2007

Just out of curiosity.... how many of you are looking to secure one of the 500 SB100 numbers on January 2, 2007 (let's try and keep this topic in tact so we can get an accurate count, i.e. no hijacking please - thanks).

Yeah jdog, it’s almost as tough as getting a WSCB-Track Day spot!

Me too. Hoping someone will tell me if one of the DMV's in the Bakersfield area know what they're doing as I'll be at my gopher ranch on the 2nd.

Maybe we should go to the same DMV office, we could take turns going for hot coffee!

Good Luck

To all those who need SB100

In case you are not aware of some recommendations, here they are:

Strongly recommend going to an DMV office familiar with the SB100 process. Even if you have to travel a few hours, it may be worth it. Also, you may want to start a thread asking other members their experience with their local DMV.
The Folsom in DMV knows the SB100 process well. I showed up an hour before they opened and was 15th in line and got a number.

You may want to visit your local DMV office ahead of time and talk to the person who will be in charge of this process, see how comfortable you are with their knowledge of the process. Many clerks have no idea whats involved. Tell them your situation and what help you are looking for.

Example: In Folsom there was about 6-8 of us. The clerk called on our behalf continously untill she got through, (45-75min). She then ran all our apps. while on the phone with downtown Sac at one time. This is huge, if they hangup and recall, the numbers will be gone before everyone gets one.

Guys, this is a tag team effort. Organize ahead of time, let DMV ahead of time know how many people you expect in your group and if they will group you guys together when they finally get though on the phone. This is going to require a one on one relationship with the clerk. Most clerks will work with you once you tell them the whole story of whats involved and how long you have had to wait for this SB100 process.

Under no circumstance leave DMV if the clerk tells you to go home and we will call you once we get through on the phone.

Do not let them just call once every 5 or 10 min, you will never all get your numbers. There has to be a clerk dedicated to keep on calling till they get through. Suggest this to the clerk ahead of time during you pre-visit. Many clerks have no idea of the volume of calls this creats to the downtown office once they open this process.

GOOD LUCK!.

Whatever it takes...I will be camped out waiting in line. Kinda reminds the time when I was a teenager standing in line all night long to get Van Halen tickets! I got center stage floor tickets. Persistence is everything!

Hey Vince, FYI -
The main contact at Folsom is not there any more, so I would not talk up on Folsom - just so you are aware; different staff there now; we'll see. Those people are gone to other sites now. Note: I started familiarizing myself with the folks there in Folsom 6 months in advance and none of them knew anyting about it or what to do the first 1-4 times I went in there. I went in every month, once a month just to let them know, and to check on what the lay of the land was going to be. Essentially, I went in with a binder with all the downloaded documented procedure notes from everythign I could find on the web (hilighted) with details and showed them; what they showed me was an old SPCNS procedure from 2001 with reference to SB100. That is all they had. The final notice they received went to them after Christmas and DMV was holding the actual/final approved procedure till a few days before New Years. CRAZY! Actually, we got pretty lucky getting our numbers as well as we did.

__________________________________________________ __________

Just want to make sure everyone knows, the whole SB100 thing is a bit of a crapshoot, no guarantee, and its worth working with someone at the DMV office who truly knows the what the process is and what it's not when the doors open. It would not suprise me if they come up with yet another revised procedure this year. We'll see. Good Luck to all.

Too bad AAA does not handle SB100 as they are great to work with.

Is anyone else from the San Mateo County area going to get an SB100?

Has anyone used any of the DMV's in the San Mateo area to get an SB100 in the past?

Let's get together as stated above and turn this into a team effort.

Default How did everyone do?

Unbelieveable! I tried to setup an appointment in Los Gatos for 8am on January 2nd and I got the message "Date nor time is available". So after a few more tries I decided to cut bait. I selected Santa Clara and got an appointment at 8.45. The time was 12:01am.

Apparently, not all DMV offices are open the same day. This really ticks me off but I hope I got a shot at it still.

I just booked in at Santa Clara for 8:55...my local office, San Mateo, was not taking appointments, and the others in the area were after 9am.

Guys,

You need to be at your respective DMVs when the doors open, period. Don't walk in at 8:30 or 9:00ish saying I have do a sb100 please. This sb100 "window" is open for only a few short hours a year, then it closes....numbers gone. Don't screw around with appointments. Get there at 2am with a folding chair and a blanket and try to be the first one in the door. It is totally worth a little discomfort and giving it your best shot at getting a one of these, hard to aquire, sequence number. Seriously, this is dog-eat-dog and you should be in attack mode. I heard some crazy stories from good friends getting their numbers last year. People were loosing it in line and in the dmv. Every year it gets more intense and the numbers go quicker. They will probably group you guys together so it is very important to be there when they start calling Sac.

Good luck and may the force be with all of you,
John

Seems totally bizarre that only a handful of DMV offices are open on 1/2/07...your tax dollars at work! I would call on Monday to confirm the DMV's Holiday schedule.

I've got no "skin in the game" this year, but I'm wondering if this might actually work to your advantage. If those folks who are applying for SB 100 don't band together, the number of calls to Sacramento will be spread out over a period of time based on the time that people have appointments.

Best of luck to all! I'm hoping to either find an SB100 car in Q1 or order a new Superformance. If I order a new car, I'll be in your shoes in 2008.

Doug

Oh boy, "dog-eat-dog"!
Sounds like my kinda game!

I have an 8:15am appointment at the Carmichael office!

The earliest I could get for the Sacramento office was 9:00am.

I will have my camper in the parking lot around midnight!
There will be hot coffee and restroom for all CC members that show up at Carmichael!

Good luck everybody!
