Default Motor Vehicle Bond

I just got a letter from DMV stating that my application for registration can't be completed because I need a Motor Vehicle Bond?? WTF? It also states that I need a Statement of Construction. I'm confused as all bloody hell. Of course, I've been on hold with DMV for a long time. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance and see you at the Bash.

I also had to get a bond. If I remember right, it was about 1% of the value of the vehicle. I don't have the company name handy at work, but if you need a company name, you can send me a private message and I can get that. Somebody else will have to chime in the about the statement of construction.

Looks like you got the first part answered - here is some info on the second half of your question.

The statement of construction includes a statement of facts (i.e. where you bought the kit, motor, transmission, who assembled the components, etc), and cost information on the vehicle (i.e. kit, tires/wheels, motor, transmission, misc parts, etc), as well as where the major components were purchased (you need to have receipts and an MSO). This is used to place a value on your car and to confirm there are no stolen parts.

REG 5036 - you can pick one up at DMV or download it from their site.

I thought you had your car registered with an SB#. Guess not, huh?

Scott, I shouldn't need a bond cuz the car was paid for in full. Also the Statement of Const. was already filed in order to get my SB100 seq. #. And can you believe I'm STILL on hold!

I bought my car second hand with 5500 miles on it. I also paid for it in full with no lien holder or anything, and they still made me get a defective vehicle title bond (I think thats what it was called).

Hey Phil. Yeah, I got my Seq #. DMV finally answered they phone. The folks at DMV seem just as confused. They want me to fax all my papers to them and then wait and see. I told 'em that I got a seq # and I already paid for everything, and I swear I could hear them scratching their head in wonderment. I spoke with the manager and they're not sure wants going on. Here we go.....

Scott, was something wrong with your car to have a Defective Vehicle Title Bond?

In this case i would sell the car right away,........ just in case..... I would buy it. How about a trade for a used BMW bike. ...... Just kidding . Everything will work out, don't worry.
See you Friday, at 1:00.

Yer phunny, Uwe. Been up in the hills too long and the thin air is gettin' to ya.
Yeah, I know it'll work out. It's just....damn. Another block in the road and nobody really seems to know what's up. I've got all my ducks in a row, quacking right along and then this pops up. I had a feeling something wasn't right with the length of time for the plate/tag to show up. At least I've got a temp till July.

You could park it in the backyard and plant some yellow flowers around it, would go well with the red . Send me a picture!

OK................. Mr. Murphy it is ......... now I can finally get back to being the only "monster" on the block

MM, Hope things work out for you soon and you have fun at WSCB!! I won't be able to make it again this year, but maybe you and some of the NorCal folks can make it to Murphys for Tour de Vin and we can have a glass or two.

Take care,
Mike "monster"
