4th of July parade
Who is interested in driving their Cobra in the Carmichael 4th of July Parade this year. We can tape an American flag to our roll bar and rev the engine every block or so. There are a number of car clubs that show up each year and I think the Cobras would really wow the crowd. It is about 2 to 3 miles long with people lined up between Marconi ave and Cypruss ave on Fair oaks blvd. -John

I think that would be fun....assuming that it's not too hot. Don't know about you, but my car doesn't like to idle for extended periods when it is 100 degrees outside.
I know in the recent past, my mother in law was in the chamber of commerce, that there has been a small static car show at that big park where all the activities take place. I think that might work better for my car. Do you have any contact info?

Not as of yet. I was waiting to see what the response would be. I know that the Carmichael Elks Lodge has a big hand in the parade proceedings. They would know where to sign up. Even if we had 3 cars in the parade it would be great. Count me in -John

Sorry, my car doesn't do well in parades/traffic - to much wear and tear on the engine and clutch, not to mention the hydraulics...... plus all the that horse stuff on the road makes for a lot of clean-up

I would love to cruise in the parade. My daughter would get a real kick out of it.
Where are we meeting and at what time?

Here is the latest info on the parade. I contacted Jim Warrick (916-967-7078) hm, and (916-489-2103) Elks Lodge number. He is a higher up at the Elks Lodge and is the Go-to person about the parade. I have volunteered my car to cart a Elks Dignitary at the begining of the parade, so that is a done deal. They have many spots open, so give Jim a call and he can set you up for the 4th. It will be a lot of fun-John

Interesting - I grew up with a Jim Warrick in Carmichael... didn't know he was still around. His dad managed the Westerner Drive-in Theater in the late 50's and early 60's (it was between Cypress and Gibbons - entrance on Fair Oaks). There is a Bel Air there now.

Phil,
50's and 60's? Did they have cars back then? How old are you? If you have time, we should get together and you should tell us stories from the good old days.

I think I would like to nominate Uwe as the Club Jester. Do I have a second?

Maybe anyone who was not around for the original Shelbys should be allowed to have one, let alone be rude about its era.....

I am only a few days out of town and already I can feel the pointy tips of the little knives in my back.
Wow, I'ts not my fault that I was not born in the 30's, but I promise I help Phil to put his walker in the trunk on the next drive

How funny, I can relate with Phil on this as I was 5 years old when we moved to Carmichael in 1957 On Locust Ave between Garfield and Hackberry. I remember going to the Westerner Drive-in, Green Acer Miniature Golf, The Triangle Gas Station, The Chinaman's Grocery Store, Army Navy Surplus Store and never forget the Hobby Coral and the 5 & 10 cent store LOL to much more I could list that is just not around anymore.
It's fun to look back on this, Don

Don,
I remember them all very well. Let's not overlook Gibbons Dairy, Bob's Pet Land, or Carmichael Pool. I grew up on Gibbons Drive between Garfield and Fair Oaks (new house in 1955).
John - My apologies for hijacking your thread..... hope you stay cool on Wednesday
