Default Does anyone have Progressive Insurance?

I spent a good part of the day yesterday looking at insurance carriers and they're all about the same: 500'ish/year, limited use and mileage, etc.. But, there's one or two people at ffcobra that allegedly went through Progressive and got roughly the same deal with no use restrictions (milege, yes, but no use). I called Progressive thinking maybe I'd get lucky since they insure our dune buggy, but no luck. They wanted almost 2K/year for no restrictions on use. One guy at ffcobra stated that he just had to "find the right agent" for Progressive to get the good deal. Of course, he's in Florida and that doen't do me much good here. So, is there anyone out there who has a good Progressive agent in Cali that is getting great rates without the use restrictions, or is this just a tall tale? If this agent exists, who and where are they???

BTW - At the breakfast at Cassidy's I mentioned to some of you about our Empi Sportster project. Since I have PhotoBucket open on another tab, I thought I'd share. It's almost done and now I'm kinda glad I'm not going through another build right now since we bought a completed car. This thing has been an awful lot of work...

Historically, the Sportster is "the" first production dune buggy. It's built on a shortened (12") VW pan and has a steel body. They were made available 3 ways: as just plans - to build your own, as a kit, and as completed vehicles. Introduced around 1960, the Sportster faded away in 1968 after competition from Bruce Meyers and the Meyers Manx and the introduction of it's sucessor, the Empi Imp. Both had fiberglass bodies and are what people generally think of when they think of dune buggies. I have only tracked down a handful of these rare cars despite their generous magazine exposure and popularity in the early 60's. They're virtually forgotten now. Here's a cover shot of two Sportsters on the July 1963 issue of Motor Trend:

Nearing completion..

Cute little booger, ain't it?

We could probably help you out with the insurance on this as long as it is not going to be driven off road and just a pleasure vehicle. Can't help about with your question about the agent with Progressive. Keep in mind the agent does not write the contract for the company, just sells it. If you find what you are looking for from an agent make sure you see it in black and white. You know how it goes, if it is sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

PS I think I just emailed you a quote on your Cobra. We could add this to the same policy relatively low in premium

Did you call Progressive direct and not a local agent?

I've had them for over 10 years. They've insured both my Cobras just like they were any other car. Every time we've checked prices our current rates with Progressive are already lower.

Don't call a local agent. Call Progressive directly. The coverage will be cheaper and the service better. Local agents only muck every thing up.

Have you tried Grundy? I looked around while shopping for my Mustang and they had a good price, no questions on the value and I can drive the car too. Just a thought. Good luck. Bruce

Yes, I checked with Grundy & I have spoken to Progressive directly. The only reason I asked about "particular" agents is because some don't know as much as others with regards to writing these cars.

Robbin, we know it has to be a pleasure vehicle and are well aware of the restrictions. That's ok, we knew it going in and we have two regular daily vehicles. It's just when we heard other people bragging their coverage, as you said - it sounded "too good to be true," but worth investigating.

Actually, I sent you a reply last night and we have decided to go with you. That's a great rate you offered and we appreciate it. You won't have to worry about us since we're extremely particular about how we care for our vehicles and have a great deal of respect for this this car in particular.

Cheers,

David -
