Sacramento Air Show Mar. 15th & 16th
I thought I would post a note for those interested in air shows that the Sacramento Air Show is this month. Here is a link to the show site:

Costco!
One of the best kept secrets for this show is the Costo parking lot on Sunrise Blvd.!
I was shopping at Costco last year during the air show. I grabbed a 'Hotdog & Soda' and sat in the parking lot. Your kinda at one end of the runway but they come real close setting up and making their turns. Really cool and free!

If you like having the airshow in your backyard, you should support the airshow with attendance. The airshow not only offers a family friendly-event (with tons of things going on on the ground and at low-levels that are missed with remote viewing) but it funds scholarships for the community. Wihtout funding, the show and the scholarships will disappear forever.

I hear you brother..............
I went to the first one a few years ago, there was a 3hr traffic jam getting out of the place. Lines a mile long at the 4 porta potties that I saw! And you sure couldn't get a Polish & soda for a buck 50!
How about I mail them the $11 and sit at Costco anyway? There's no line at the restrooms and you can get out of there when ever you want.
Besides I kinda feel like I'm already supporting the show anyway. The last time I looked the Blue Angles were part of the US Navy. The same thing with the Army Jump team, I think I paid for those parachutes. I'll ask my taxman!
With all of that said I do see your point. So those of you that go to Costco, and enjoy the show, please send a donation to the Capitol Airshow. But they're still not going to beat the $1.50 lunch and open restrooms!

P.S. There is another Blue Angel airshow during 'Fleet Week' in the city. They fly right over the SF bay. The local Salmon fishing boats make a day of it. We fish for Salmon all day and get back under The Gate in time to anchor off of Alcatraz with the best seat in the house for the afternoon show. I guess we aren't paying for that show either!

I have attended this show both years that it has been back. I agree that the first year was a mess. But in thier defense they were expecting roughly a third of the number that actually attended. The facilities were just overwhelmed. Last year was far better and was a great show. I highly recommend it to anybody that has any interest. And if you can, take a kid. Nothing awes a child like jet fighters! Not even a Cobra. It does make me a little sad that we no longer hear the occasional jet fighter overhead. I miss the sound of freedom.
One thing that shouldn't be missed is the F-22 Raptor. Last year it flew and did only the second air show flight demonstration up to that point. I have been around aircraft all my life and worked on F-15A-D's, F-15E, F-16 and a bit with A-10's while in the Air Force. I kept hearing how it was a quantum leap forward in capabilities. I had seen the shows on discovery and military channels but still couldn't see where all the money had gone. That ended in about the first 30 second of the flight demo. UNBELIEVABLE. The maneuverablity was something to behold. This thing was doing things that the guys flying the Yak aeronautics planes could barely do. That alone was worth the price of admission. It also gave me an overwhelming sense of national pride that I hadn't felt since the retirement of the SR-71.
So I suggest grabbing a son, daughter, nephew, or neighbor kid and head over.
Just my 2 cents.
P.S. Jdog, if you have an open place on those Salmon boats I would forever be indebted!

These are commercial open charter boats out of Fishermans Warf & Berkeley Marina, about $100 +tips.
You can go along with us when we go, or I'll see you there!

Drive and park your car at the Watt/Manlove light rail station and take the train to the Mather/Mills Station and catch the direct shuttle busses from that station to the airshow and back. Free rides with airshow ticket holders and busses and trains run every 15 minutes to and from the show-John

I got to see them practice for the last two days
I saw them practicing today and yesterday. Those who go will see a great show. I got to see them after work, there was quite a crowd watching the free show. I got some nice pictures too.
