Default Need track legal roll bar; Sacramento, CA

I'm new to Club Cobra and recently purchased a 2002 Unique Motorcars 427 Cobra, which used to belong to Stroker Bob on CC in the Sacramento, CA, area.

My single hoop roll bar is not track legal as it doesn't pass the broomstick test.

I need a track legal roll bar installed, so I'm looking for information on where I can get one to install on my Cobra, or if anyone knows someone in the Sacramento, CA, area (I'm in El Dorado Hills, about 20 miles east of Sacramento) who can fabricate/install a track legal roll bar.

Thanks!
Jim Millington

Hello Jim,
Welcome as a new owner and CC Member. Good looking car and like the red with white color too. You asked about a Legal roll bar and then said it would not pass broomstick test. Just what are you looking to do with your car or what sanctioning body are you trying to pass? The broomstick test may be just the beginning or a simple height adjustment may fix what you want.

Specific shops in your area can be recommend by CC or the Cobra Club in you town but a chassis shop is a place to start. Race car fabricators and chassis builders have the equipment and correct tubing once your sanctioning body is nailed down. For me it is always a trade off between what the Tech. Inspection wants and Street Dress comfort.

Thanks for the input!

I just want to run the Cobra on local track days, specifically with NCRC (Northern CA Racing Club), and their rules simply state that the roll bar pass the "broomstick test", so I think that a simple height adjustment would suffice; I hadn't thought of that, so thanks!

Jim,
Your welcome, the seat mounting is the other variable. Enjoy the track days and of course be careful. For all I know you have tons of track time in other cars but remember to sneak up on this car and learn its limitations.

Just take out the seat cushion and sit on a towel for the race. It will lower you about 3-4 inches-John
