Guys, Thank you all very much. I have been reading these posts all day as I have been working on the car and chasing parts hither and yon (yawn)! I replaced the pump and the tank twice! The wrecking yard gave me a tank with four locking lugs that hold sending unit and pump in and my old tank had three. Of course I didn't notice until I had cleaned it up inside and out and had put the pump in... Oops! No big I thought I'll just get the other style locking rings... Right! None of the Ford dealers carry them, the wrecker didn't have them but offered to pull a tank from a car in the yard while I wait. OK, tanks I'll wait. Hour and a half later the guy comes in and tells me that the tank had the same rings I already had, but I can have the whole tank, Cool! I traded and they took my old tank so I didn't have to deal with it, The replacment tank was real dirty on the out side only and Looked like it had pretty fresh gas in it. A quick cleaning and flush And I was back where I was only 3 hours erlier!

There is never anything easy with custom cars... except spending money and time! Why are they so much fun any way.

Got it all buttoned up tonight and went to the gas station for about three gallons, just in case, then a test ride for about an hour and a half. So far it runs better than it has since I have owned it and no leaks, time for a full tank!

The grommet on all three tanks either tore split or crumbled when I took them out of the tanks, the good news was Folsom Lake Ford sell them for only $28.xx Pls tax. 30 something for that and the seal for the sending unit, The new pump came with it's own seal. The filler neck grommet is a MUST CHANGE if the filler neck comes out, it's not worth the risk.

Again, thanks to all, I think This got it.

Was it the tank or fuel pump or not sure yet?

Right now I'm not certain this was the problem, I guess you can say I'm cautiously optimistic!

If it is fixed I think both were contributing factors based on how the car acted. Sometimes just an occasional hiccup or hesitation and other times it would shut down and maybe just idle roughly so to speak. I think the intermittent pump would cause part of the problem and sometimes be helped along with the baffle shifting over on top of the sock/screen blocking flow. When I would jump on it it would shift the baffle away from the sock and I would get better flow. When just putting around the baffle would gradually work itself over the sock and slow flow. I think when both things acted up at the same time it would shut down and then re-prime as I was slowing down. Who knows I am just guessing.

Time will tell. Keeping the fingers crossed!

YeeHaww!

Went for another ride today and it is a different car! It is overall much smoother in every respect not a hickup or hesitation at all, This is a mild mannered car that runs like you would expect an EFI V8 engine to run, at least until you tickle the supercharger with the throttle toes!

I B happy now!

Thaks again!

I had that same problem on my FFR. The Baffle inside the fuel tank broke free and was causing all sorts of related problems. New tank fixed it-John

Ray,
For what its worth - Dyno or no dyno, if after about 50 replies you get tired of chasing it - just bring it to Gary. 1st phone call is free, 2nd call to Gary is to schedule the appointment.

While it's in there, I'll bet ya right now he'll find at least 2-3 other things (or maybe more) that will help you to make the car better, safer, and more enjoyable. Gary focuses on the fundamentals saving you time and money zeroing in on what's obvious to him with a trained and focused understanding. I've seen it over and over with several FFRs that have been in/out of there, along with a few decades of other Cobras all fixed and improved by Gary. You'll be a forever customer, watch and see.

Duane

Do you know if Gary has the equipment to dial in a distributor? I put a new one in the GTO and I want it set up properly and not depend on the factory set curves.

Thanks,
John

John, give him a call and see or he can get it done through the other shop, etc.

GT Auto / Gary is at: 916-638-8649

If Tony answers, tell him you are in the Cobra Club and what you need, and that you want to discuss it with Gary directly.

Duane
