Default North Bay Cobra Outing August 18 - Point Reyes and Oysters

The next outing with the North Bay Cobra Club is less then 4 weeks away on SUNDAY August 18.

This will be a local trip mostly in Marin County with a short dash into Sonoma.

All comers are welcome.

We start in Novato at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, proceed south on 101 to Lucas Valley Road, then west to Nicasio, onto Point Reyes. At Highway 1 head north and proceed to the Marshall Store for baked, fried or grilled oysters. After our snack, we head north to the mouth of Tomales Bay, then head east on Tomales-Petaluma Road to Petaluma and turn south to Novato ending with a great BBQ at Ed Wise's house.

Details:

9:00 AM: Meet at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center,132 Vintage Way. Gather near the Starbucks.

9:30 AM: Depart Vintage Oaks, head south on Highway 101, exit Lucas Valley Road and travel to Nicasio, continue north to Nicasio Reservoir, head west on Point Reyes Petaluma Road until intersecting Highway 1. Turn north and travel on Highway 1 to the Marshall Store, about 8 miles.

10:15 AM: Arrive at Marshall Store. This is a funky place with barrel tables along the roadway but great oysters any way you like.

11:00 AM +/- : Depart Marshall Store, head north on Highway 1, turn west on Tomales-Petaluma Road. South on Petaluma Blvd which leads onto Highway 101. Exit at De Long Ave, turn right onto Novato Blvd and proceed north for about a mile, then left onto Wilson Ave.

Noon +/- : Arrive at Ed Wise's house - 719 Wilson Avenue, Novato (415) 378-2941.
Ed will provide chicken for all. BYO drinks (no glass by the swimming pool). Also bring a group share say for eight - salads, finger food, desserts. Swim gear to enjoy pool.

Total round trip from Vintage Oaks to Ed's house is about 70 miles.

Please advise Ed if you are planing to come so he gets the right amount of chicken: e-mail fastwise@aol.com

The wife and I headed out there last weekend only to be greeted by cones and a road closed sign on Lucas valley road...no road closed ahead, nothing.

Rerouted north through Petaluma onto some seriously twisty bumpy circuitous route that actually dumped us out right in the driveway of Hog Island oysters (which is cool but all but impossible to get seated anymore without reservations a month ahead of time).

Tony’s seafood is owned by Hog Island, is just down the road, has the same oysters and far and away the best linguini with clams I’ve ever had, parking is tight but worth it.

Tried sending an email to Ed's email address above and it bounced. Patty and I are interested in coming up from the E. Bay for the trip if you'll have a couple BACC interlopers.
