Bruce, my Chicago Boss decided I needed to be in town the Friday of the cruise. I don't have to go back often, so when he calls, I sorta need to make an appearance. I thought about coming back and catching up with you guys and I might still do that. For now I've cancelled my hotel reservations. I was really looking forward to the trip. You will have to carry on without me.

Just a reminder that if your planning on going on the trip you need to have your room reservations in by Friday. That is when I lose the block of rooms. We are getting close and praying for continued good weather!

Default Meet in Lincoln City?

Hi Guys:

I'm thinking about driving over from Corvallis on the 21st to meet you all in Lincoln City on your way back up north. To do that, I need to know where you are going to be, and when you will be there (at least approximately).

Can you tell me?

Thanks!

David, we will most likely be leaving Florence around 9AM and heading for Lincoln City for lunch, then heading towards Portland.

Cascade Cobras annual beach run is on August 20th. We are heading over to Tillamook to meet up with a cadre of cobras heading down the coast for a 3 day cruise. We are starting from the Newberg Fred Meyer at 9. This coordinates with the Cruzers travels from Seaside to Tillamook.

The cruzers are heading down Hwy 101 after Tillamook for lunch in Newport. We will probably break down into smaller groups and choose different routes back to Portland: head in from Tillamook for lunch at the casino, down to Lincoln City and then back in or all the way down to Newport for a full day of fun.

I am going with the Cruzers down for lunch then head back on Hwy 20 to Hwy 223 through Kings Valley and up to Dallas. From there it is back up 99W or over to Salem on Hwy 22 and back up I-5. That is a full day.

Jake: You have my cell number if you any questions. We'll see you in Tillamook.

Chris

Cobra Make, Engine: Andy Teal bought this kit in 1992 and that company promptly went out of business. The engine is a 427 and I'm told it was a factory built race engine by Ford and put in a Torino and raced in something called Winston West Racing in the mid '60's.

Thumbs up Coastal Run.

Hello, Jake.
I won't be making the Coastal Run but what I do want to do is meet you guys at the Lakewood P. & R. and follow the group as everyone leaves town and at some point breaking away and heading back home. My work schedule is so unpredictable so I won't know until the night before if I can make it. The weather should be good so that won't be an issue. Looking forward to seeing/meeting Cobras/people.

I just got a message from the Three Rivers Casino and the 50's show is sold out. I was told that if anyone has not already purchased tickets that the manager has 4 tickets that he will save for me. Anyone interested in them? They should be about $16 ea.

My wife Donna and I, along with a few Cascade Cobra folks met the group in Newport for lunch. The drive from Seaside to Newport took them a bit longer as the traffic on the coast this time of year goes slow, slower and slowest.

It was great talking to the folks, renewing old friendships and seeing the cars.

We waved goodbye and the group headed to Florence and some more fun tonight.

Good time,
Chris

Just got home and what a blast. Great cars, great roads, great food and great people. The only bad part was it had to end. I could of gone for another week. I think I have added a few more friends to my list. If you missed this run you didn't have as much fun as we did. I am sure photos will start getting posted soon. I wanted to say a big thanks to Jake for getting this planned. I know the Portland and Seattle crew don't get together much but we need to change that. Thanks everyone for a great time. Hope all made it home safe. See everyone next year if not before.

Yes, we hit traffic as well.Scott and I ended up taking Hwy 12 and going all the way to Morton and going the long way back to Puyallup. Got in the Cobra at 0830 and got home at 7pm. One of the longest days I have ever done in a Cobra! Here are a couple pics. I will get the photoshow done in the next week.

Default The NWCC Ciastal Cruze as I saw it

First of all I want to say thanks to Jake and Kim for setting up a really great event. Having done a couple of these myself I can appreciate the amount of work it takes to put something like this together. GREAT JOB.
Day one started out clear but by the time we got to the rendezvous point the overcast had caught up with us. That's the northwest for you. If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes and it'll change.
Everyone got together in the McDonalds parking lot and we had a mini car show for all the locals. I think the count was 13 by the time we were ready to leave.

We left Lakewood via I5 south and traveled down to Olympia where we took off west headed for the coast. Within 5 miles of heading west we drove out from under the overcast and could enjoy the sunshine and blue skies.

A little later and we were back under the overcast but it was warming up so we had high hopes that things were improving.

A bit of a way down the road Jacob had the his rear spinners loosen up on him and had to pull over to try and sort them out. On the plus side I had my Mother Thumper mallet, safety wire and safety wire pliers with me so we were able to get the spinners tightened up and rewired. Jacob got a little energetic with the mallet and the driver side spinner ended up with only two rather than three ears but the ear with the hole drilled in it was in tact. We got everything re-stowed and off we went to catch up with the rest of the crew. The weather started cooperating again so we had a pleasant run the rest of the way to the Astoria bridge.

As we got to the Astoria bridge Tom Ryon ended up pulled over in the shelter of some construction equipment. He had lost his alternator about 30 miles back and was trying to make it to Seaside with just the battery. Ended up about 25 miles short.
Matt Brown and I pulled over to see what we could do to help and decided to put Tom's wife Erica in my empty seat while Matt and Michelle got back in their car and we crossed the bridge to Astoria in search of the NAPA store to find a replacement alternator.
Once we found the NAPA store we learned that the nearest alternator was in Portland and the soonest they could get it was the following morning. Alternate plan B was to buy a fresh battery for him and see if he could limp into Seaside on just the new battery.
Erica and Michelle took Matt's car to meet us on the way back over the bridge while Matt and I took the new battery back to Tom's car.
As luck would have it the replacement battery didn't quite fit the mounting point for it so we took my jumper cables and just connected the new battery to the cables from the now dead unit and Tom got going with Matt and I riding drag in case things failed again.
The Karma gods were smiling on us because Tom made it all the way into Seaside on the new battery.
By then the weather had turned again and Seaside was socked in but hey, we were at the hotel so things were good.
View from my room at the hotel.
