California Here I Come
The wife and I are driving the Cobra to SoCal tomorrow. We were going to take the Pacific Hwy 1 all the way down, but ran out of time. We will take the freeway from Bellingham to Portland. In Portland we will cut to the coast highway and take Hwy 1 or 101 south from there. We have to be in Camarillo, CA Monday to sign the papers to buy our new home. It will be about 1,300 miles in 3 days. Yeah, it is likely to rain all day Friday to Portland. That is pretty much the reason we are leaving the beautiful great northwest. Because we have a Cobra, we are moving to SoCal and bought a house with plenty of garage space. It just killed me to sit at home in the cold & rain last winter with the Cobra in the garage. Can you believe a Cobra could change your outlook on life? Wah Yeah! We are starting out with the top on!

Ward,
If you haven't traveled the 101 before you will see some great scenery. It is nice that you will be able to drive your Cobra but don't be surprised at the hassel of getting it registered in this state. If you know some people down there ask them which DMV is car friendly and use it, no matter if you do have to drive a little ways. Oh, and welcome to the Republic Of california.

I have heard good things about the DMV in Thousand Oaks. Not too far a drive for you from your new home. As Ron said, welcome to the People's Republic where they tax you for sneezing! If you are bringing any guns in, lock 'em up!

Tried that with one of my OR registered cars. Only lasts so long, especially if you have a cop living nearby. Came to my house and told me time was up. Thousand Oaks is good. Get an appointment.

He was cool about it. A neighbor. Just said "hey Dude, I've got a lot of friends that come over here and I'm starting to get some sh))t. I do admit that I had the plates for about 1-1/2 years. I am golden now.

With Hillbank Motors who sell Superformance in Irvine, one would expect that registration should be pretty straightforward ..

Traffic jams everywhere in California these days, so make sure your radiator and fans are up to the task.
Camarillo is a great spot...you guys will enjoy the year round Cobra driving weather. PM me if your trip takes you through Santa Cruz on Hwy 1. I'm a stones throw away from the hwy.

We only made it 400 miles today and are in Newport, OR. Had a great fish dinner and the sea lions are barking like crazy! They say all the females are PG and gone leaving the males only to bark. I can hear them right now at 11 PM! We had several stops along the way for phone calls to handle escrow issues. I know it is sacrilegious to mention it, but I got 18 MPG on my first tank. The top was a life saver as it rained most of the day. We still got wet but it wasn't as bad. This is possible only because my wife loves the adventure of riding in a legend. I was wondering how long I could get along with my free Washington registration in California. Seems like the insurance would make it a little messy. Thousand Oaks is close by and sounds like a great DMV. Thanks for all the well wishes!

My medical plan wants me to be active and healthy and I get a lower premium if I meet certain goals. They gave me a pedometer to track my steps each day. If you get more than 10,000 steps in a day you are "active" and meet the criteria they set. By riding in the Cobra today my wife and I got over 20,000 steps each! The solid ride must be enough to fool the pedometer to think we are out on a long walk! Yeah, try that in a Vett! What a great ride a Cobra is! And so healthy!

Welcome to CA. You'll love it here. There's are good reasons why it's the most populous state.
I believe if you intend on living and registering the car here in CA, then you have 20 days from entry/move-in.
